A prototype is a preliminary model of something. Projects that offer physical products need to show backers documentation of a working prototype. This gallery features photos, videos, and other visual documentation that will give backers a sense of what’s been accomplished so far and what’s left to do. Though the development process can vary for each project, these are the stages we typically see:
Proof of Concept
Explorations that test ideas and functionality.
Demonstrates the functionality of the final product, but looks different.
Looks like the final product, but is not functional.
Appearance and function match the final product, but is made with different manufacturing methods.
Appearance, function, and manufacturing methods match the final product.
Lizard Bikes was born out of an idea to create a fun and funky selection of electric bikes. There are a number of e-bikes appearing on the market, but all too many of them look like bikes that are electric, not electric bikes! There was no design or purpose to them, and an ugly battery strapped onto the back of them! We wanted to create a strong brand that encapsulated the fun element of cycling again, coupled with todays technology. We wanted to create a strong design also, incorporating the battery into the frame, where it should be protected. We believe we have a bike that although is a traditional bicycle at heart, encompasses great design and technology seamlessly fused together for todays use.
It is a full-sized bike that can fold also, making it easier to cycle than traditional small wheeled folding bikes. Being compact allows you to bring it up an elevator to your apartment, or pop into the back of your car to allow you to cycle the last part of your journey into work!
Recently at an electric technology conference where we showed the bike, Quentin Wilson, famous UK motoring commentator called our bike "A thing of beauty"!
We also love technology here at Lizard. Our first bike, the Lizard Street needed to be a little different than others, so we wanted a fully integrated display in the handlebars, a first in the industry. It's really cool too and allows you to connect your smart phone and charge it as you cycle with the integrated USB port!
All of our bikes are made to the highest standard and checked before they will be shipped.

Lizard Bikes has finished the design and pre-production and testing of the Lizard Street bike. We just need the input now to bring us across the line into production. We are confident you will be very happy with our first bike that will make you stand out from the others cycling to work or social event!
The Battery can be charged in the bike or removed and brought with you to charge elsewhere. As the bike folds you might think that the battery could be stolen. We have created a locking system whereby the battery cannot be removed unless unlocked using a key supplied.
Risks and challenges
Our sister company (Volt Motorcycles) is launching a range of electric motorcycles to the market so we thought it would be good to use some of the knowledge from them of the electric vehicle market. Design is all important to vehicles, and the battery technology within the bike. We have done all the design and testing now, and been privately funded to this point, we just need a push from you guys now to get our production up and running! The pictures you see are mainly of the pre-production bike without our logo etc, but what you see will be pretty much the final product.
