A Very Special, UNCOERCED Message from Relentless Rex's Voice Double
Hi, my name is Patrick Hickey Jr. I am an author, video game journalist, college professor and voice actor. But ABOVE ALL ELSE, I am scared.
You see, a few weeks ago, a T-Rex came to my home. But, it was freaky. All he had was cue-cards. They were huge and right in my face. “Hi dude, my name is Relentless Rex and I’m a fan of your voice acting. I have laryngitis and I need you to fill in for me. Would that be suitable?”
As this massive piece of paper stood in front of my face, I knew this day was about to become an adventure.
With no room to bargain, I really had no choice in the matter. I ran into my man cave and started recording Rex’s lines. He’s got this Kevin Michael Richardson/Super Shredder, meets Arnold Schwarzenegger thing going on and I’m not going to lie, it was rough on my vocal chords at first. But after Rex took me into his home and played some of his greatest hits, I got a better understanding of what makes him so unique. Make no mistake, he’s a massive monster and in order to channel him, you have to become one. At the same time, while his voice scares the bejesus out of my neighbors, my 15-month-old daughter thinks it’s hilarious.
If making my daughter smile wasn't enough, at the same time, the other human onboard, Kevin Wynns, is an awesome dude, who I have plenty of creative synergy with. All in all, playing a part in this game has been immensely gratifying and my hope is that you guys enjoy all of Kevin’s hard work and my “borrowed voice.”
Simply put, my work in other games, the likes of The Padre and Tr.1.S are more in my natural and comfortable register. Nonetheless, playing Rex, even while he is just out sick, has been a challenge from day one, but a fun one.
My hope is that you share this Kickstarter page and help Rex & Kevin get this project funded. It’s an awesome game that deserves to become a reality.
