What is Uncle David?
In 2010 The Avant Garde Alliance made the award winning comedy horror feature film, Uncle David.
Six years later the team returns with most of the same crew and the movie’s star David Hoyle, for the much anticipated sequel.
In the original film David takes his nephew Ashley to a caravan park on the Isle of Sheppey to escape his volatile home life and prepare him for a new life, off planet.
In the sequel David returns, a few years later, with a different 'nephew' and for very different reasons. A chance encounter with a feral young man dramatically changes the course of everyone's lives.

How is Uncle David unique?
The Uncle David films are utterly unique enterprises. Filmed over four days on location, they are shot in sequence with the actors staying in character the whole time, with no scripts and with everything shot once, in one take. The result are films with a raw, emotional honesty and startling intensity of performance unmatched in any recent independent British cinema.
The genesis of this sequel has followed the same path as the first film: the actors have spent numerous days and nights together improvising in character (and in costume) in order to excavate both their back stories and connections. We know some of what might occur in the film but are equally leaving some of the events open both to the moment and to interpretation by the viewer.
A “dramatic working-through of the compelling powder-keg of ideas that fuels Hoyle’s legendary live performance work.”
“That Uncle David […] is extreme is no surprise; what could not have been predicted is the formal assurance and emotional power of the film”
“Born in Blackpool sometime in the 60s, I went straight into cabaret from the age of 17 and have been performing on stage most my life. I’ve been on screen in films (Velvet Goldmine, Todd Haynes), TV shows (Nathan Barley, Chirs Morris) and I even had my own TV show (The Divine David Presents). Most recently, I have featured in the film, Set the Thames on Fire (Ben Charles Edward) due for national release in September 2016. ("David Hoyle's Magician is a memorable portrait in showmanship and despair" The Hollywood Reporter.) In essence, I am anti-fascist and I’m interested in creating a progressive society – one a little bit more mutually supportive than the one we currently live in.”
“I am an Irish actor currently training with The Court Theatre Training Company in Shoreditch. I am part of Soho based improv-group “The Funny-Siders”, (find us at Freedom Bar) and I am the co-founder of This&That Theatre Company which will be getting a relaunch later this year. I’m thrilled to be a part of Uncle David 2 and very excited to see what the rest of 2016 holds for me.”
“I have been in theatre from a very young age and I've acted professionally since 16, starring in short films for several independent filmmakers including allegorical (My Sentiments '79, Bear Story) and Bertie Gilbert (Tick Where It Hurts). I'm also a writer and musician based in London. I strongly believe that Uncle David's message is one that needs to be heard and I'm deeply honoured to be continuing the story."
He is an anarchist philosopher and pagan priest who sees his mission to release all souls bound into slavery of one form or another.
He has been living off grid, off the land with his younger sister since their parents mysteriously disappeared when they were very young. An expert forager and subsistence hunter he lives a life of anarchy David has always aspired to.
He/she was David's paperboy. An intersex androgyne schoolboy, he turns up on David's doorstep one afternoon with blood on his hands and David takes him into hiding.
We are operating on a significantly smaller budget than most other kickstarter films. As a result, your donation will make a much bigger and more meaningful difference to the success of our production. Uncle David 2 is an important film because it explores various taboo subjects in a uniquely thought provoking, mischievous, and subversive manner.
How can I donate?
Just click the green “Back This Project” button in the upper right-hand corner. You will be asked to input your pledge amount and select a reward. From there, you will go through the Amazon checkout process. You must finish the Amazon checkout process for your pledge to be recorded.
Can I donate outside of the UK?
Of course! However please be aware that if you make a pledge for the screening, performance, or dinner rewards, you must be able to make your own way to the central London.
What happens if we don’t make our target?
If the campaign fails all pledges are cancelled. Your card will not be billed at all.
Can we exceed our target?
Yes! And we must. Our target is the absolute minimum we need to shoot and post produce the film but anything over the target will go directly towards paying the actors and helping improve the special effects.
What is special about your filming process?
For this project we will be using the same experimental filming process we did on the first film: Uncle David. There will be no script, every scene will be improvised and shot in one take on two cameras. Our skeleton crew will live with the cast in the location we film in and the whole project will be filmed over no more than four days.
