About this project

Hi! My name is Julia Turgeon and I own a small publishing company in Newport, NH called Toy Surge Publishing!

Main Street Newport, NH
Main Street Newport, NH

I love to collect and make new recipes and I was looking for a recipe journal that I liked online and in local bookstores but I ended up not liking anything I saw.

The books I was finding were either paperback with black and white printing and didn’t lay flat or they had comb binding but I didn’t like the format. I found many that were too small to write ingredients or directions and they weren’t very inspiring or colorful. So, “My Favorite Recipes: A-Create-Your-Own Cookbook" was born.

This is a cover facsimile. Cover will be close to this design.

This is a prototype. The cover will be a full-color glossy hardcover with the red comb binding you see in the picture.

The recipe journal features 11 content pages where you can write your own recipe titles.

It also contains 198 recipe pages.

The book has a total of 212 pages in all.

You asked for dividers. You got it! The recipe journal now has 5 dividers with writeable tabs.

There are 5 dividers with tabs so you can write your own sections as you wish.

There will be a limited print run of this particular recipe journal size which is 7” X 10.” The mass-produced version that I plan to publish later this year is a 6” X 9” version.

This recipe journal has full-color interior pages with a durable comb binding so that it lays flat.

The cover will be a full-color glossy hardcover and will be designed if the campaign is a success. There will be endpapers to complete the inside portion of each cover and each will have nickel plated metal corners to protect the edges.

About Green Blueberry Books

Green Blueberry Books Logo
Green Blueberry Books Logo

Green Blueberry Books is my new imprint for my small publishing company, Toy Surge Publishing and this project is the first for Green Blueberry Books.

Where did the name Green Blueberry come from?

I love to create handmade books and handmade paper and this new imprint reflects what I love to do!

The “Green” in Green Blueberry Books stands for recycled materials which would describe my handmade paper making part of Green Blueberry Books. This year, I intend to have handmade paper stationery and journals bound with handmade paper. (This recipe journal does not have handmade paper but is printed and bound here at my small press.)

The “Blueberry” in Green Blueberry Books refers to my location. I am surrounded by highbush blueberries and my small press is located off of Blueberry Lane. No other name seemed more appropriate. :)

Green Blueberry Books Mission

My ultimate goal is to create all of Green Blueberry books utilizing recycled materials and paper. Being a publishing company, I want to lessen its dependence on wood products and focus on recycled materials for future books.

As much as I would love to have the first title printed on handmade paper, I'm just not there yet. This campaign is more than the limited edition recipe journal I'm giving out as a reward. It's about jumpstarting what Green Blueberry Books is about which is manufacturing its own environmentally friendly books.

Risks and challenges

I own printing and binding machines so I will not have to outsource anything. The only challenge I see is if my printing equipment breaks down momentarily that may delay printing the project for a couple of weeks.

I may also change the name of the title a bit as to not duplicate any other books out there titled similarly but I do not anticipate any other challenges. All the materials have been sourced and most have been acquired thus far.

My cover designer will work on the cover if the campaign is a success and that will take him only 3-5 days as soon as the campaign ends.
