Programming is a way of life that extends beyond the computer. I like to wear T-shirts with programming jokes. I own several coffee mugs with programming designs, and of course, my laptop is covered in programming stickers.
I always wanted to create more programmer-themed products, simply because software development is amazing! This is my first attempt at making this vision a reality.
This is awesome!
Let me run you through a short scenario:
Your programmer friends are coming to play poker, and after everyone grabs a beer and sits down, you distribute the cards for the first round. But... to everyone's surprise, they see a different programming language on every card, and laugh. Next thing you know, this becomes so intriguing that the game is paused while you look at every card, one by one. And hey, what do you know, you could even learn a few more languages!
Help Make This A Reality
Obviously, I do not personally know 50+ programming languages. If you want to help, please add or edit little snippets of code here (Google Drive). The code can be as original as you want, or else all cards will be identical.
Done! When we reach $500, I will add code for the whitespace language.
Done! When we reach $1,000, I will add code for the brainfuck language.
Comment on which language you want to see on the card!! I put up a survey here to understand what what kind of design you guys prefer.
- $900 CAD: Buy 500 deck of cards, the minimum order size (variable),
- $350 CAD: Shipping from China to Canada (variable),
- $750 CAD: Design the illustration for the Ace, Jack, Queen, King and Joker cards,
- $250 CAD: Order a sample deck of cards to ensure quality. Some companies offer $35 samples, so this cost is highly variable,
- $250 CAD: Contingency,
- (extra) Build a website,
- (extra) Professional pictures of the cards.
Risks and challenges
The main challenge will be to create a unique yet simple design. For this, we plan to use part of the funds to hire an illustrator.
The second risk will be the stock levels: cards can be ordered by batches of 500 minimum, and we don't know yet how many will be sold.
