“All minions should be watered daily. Dehydration will only slow them down. Hunger on the other hand…” – Motivating Your Minion, Evil Overlord Advice Column
Working for an Evil Overlord is never the safest of jobs, nor the most prestigious, and certainly not the most lucrative, but there's still a certain amount of pride in doing so. That's especially true when the Overlord's fiendish plan for world domination finally comes to fruition. At that point, the best place to be is at the Overlord's side as their right-hand man, woman, or ogre. This lofty position over all other Minions is the single goal, the end-point, the focus of every Minion to become the one and only HENCHMAN.
UPDATE: Rules Set Available for Viewing:
“Minions are cheap and easy, sometimes referred to as grunt power or cannon fodder. Henchmen, on the other hand, are worth their weight in… well, not gold, but something reasonably valuable. Copper? Yeah, copper.” – Devin the Bloodletter, 60 Minute Candles
In Henchman: The Card Game, each player is a Minion working for an Evil Overlord. When the previous Henchman comes to the end of their employment—due entirely to unnatural causes, we assure you—it is exactly the opportunity these Minions have been looking for. They launch an epic competition of subterfuge, deceit, and backstabbing among themselves to prove which one is most worthy to become the next Henchman!
“Delegation is the second most important skill for a henchman, only slightly superseded by shifting blame.” – The Idiot Henchman’s Survival Guide
Henchman: The Card Game is a light, fast-playing card game for 2-6 players featuring player interaction, some backstabbing, and a healthy dose of humor.
Each player takes turns purchasing cards from a common market to build their personal set of skills before the core game begins. Once all players have purchased a unique collection of skills, these get added to the start cards common to all Minions. All players are now ready to begin attempting to increase their reputation with the Evil Overlord.
Players take turns being the Minion in Charge (MIC). The MIC is responsible for doling out tasks to the other Minions, who then play cards to either help or hinder their abilities to complete the tasks. Completing a task rewards both the minion who undertook it, as well as the MIC—after all, one of the core responsibilities of any leader is delegation. However, failing to complete a task results in facing the wrath of the Evil Overlord.
“Any Evil Overlord who wants to accomplish anything quickly learns the value of Minion Resources. I’m trying to enslave an entire planet—I don’t have time to organize a Circle of Death to settle a complaint about somebody on the third Dungeon level stealing someone’s fungus smoothie!” – Devin the Bloodletter, 60 Minute Candles
Once enough tasks have been completed that the Evil Overlord feels comfortable enough to launch their scheme, the Minion who has curried the most favor will become the new Henchman! Hopefully they last longer than the last one...
“Failure has many fathers. Success has only one—the Overlord.” – Slugworm Stew for the Minion’s Soul
Designed by gaming industry veterans Dylan Birtolo and John Helfers, Henchman: The Card Game supports 2 – 5 players and takes approximately 30 minutes to play. With a focus on quick gameplay, a humorous tone, and lots of player interaction, Henchman is the game where it's good to be bad!
“Congratulations, you’ve achieved your dream—you’re a Henchman! Working for an Evil Overlord—a tyrannical, ruthless, megalomaniacal villain bent on world domination who will reduce you to a grease spot on the floor the first time you screw up. Sounds great, right? Well, take a moment to change your underwear, and then read on to not only survive, but thrive in the cutthroat world of the professional henchman.” – The Idiot Henchman’s Survival Guide

Have you ever wanted to be a game designer? Now is your chance! With Kickstarter's special November Collaborations Initiative, we are giving you a chance to help design part of Henchman: The Game! We will be doing four weeks of Collaboration projects: If chosen, you could have your design in the game, get recognition by your fellow gamers, and join our international team of designers and artists in gaming infamy! Each Week will have a different goal, so check back regularly!
Week One: Create a Minion/Name a Minion
Week Two: Draw a Minion
Week Three: Design a Task Card
Week Four: Design An Overlord - Tell Us Their Story Contest
Risks and challenges
As with any Kickstarter, there is the chance that we will not reach our goal. If the Kickstarter does not reach its goal, we would not be able to put out the game, shelving it for one of our other upcoming products.
However, we have done everything we can to make this game a reality! We have streamlined our backer rewards, (hence why we are not doing items like T-Shirts or Challenge Coins at this time,) to ensure that we can get you your backer rewards as quickly as possible. (The dates listed on each backer level are just worst-case assumptions, in case we need more time, but we are hoping to get the games to all of our backers by April.) Clarion Game Studios LLC is also made up of experienced gaming industry professionals with extensive crowdfunding backgrounds, so we are confident in our planning. Most recently the CGS team has brought several successful games to Kickstarter, such as Hull Breach: Corporate Wars and Hull Breach: In Defiance of Dictators. Under the NSB Games umbrella, they successfully funded a $33,000 Kickstarter to reprint the line, and put out a new expansion in 2017.
Those who support Henchman: The Card Game can be assured that when the Kickstarter succeeds, we will get you a magnificent game!Learn about accountability on Kickstarter
