Long ago in a part of the world now known as Scandinavia, was a region called The Northlands.
The people of the Northlands were called Nogs and were ruled by a young and determined King, Noggin the Nog.
It's tricky enough being a King, but Noggin's job was made all the more difficult by his wicked uncle, Nogbad the Bad. Nogbad thought that he should be King and so he spent his time devising dastardly plans to trick and trap Noggin or to coerce him to surrender his crown.
As Lords of the Northlands, you must develop your estates and give whatever aid you can to help Noggin with his adventures, thwart Nogbad, and gain enough popularity and prestige to ensure you are elected to the Council of Elders. Fail and Nogbad will seize the crown and you will all be banished. And we don't want that to happen do we?

An interview with Edward Uhler of Heavy Cardboard discussing the origins of Noggin the Nog and the backstory to the early steps with the game.
A brief summary of the works of Smallfilms and film of Peter Firmin collecting his BAFTA
All of the artwork for this project has been completed by the original artist for the Noggin the Nog TV series, Peter Firmin.
The game contains images from the original books in addition to over 50 specially commissioned pieces produced exclusively for the game. All work is reproduced with the kind permission of Peter and Daniel Postgate of Smallfilms Ltd. Here are few examples;
Examples of the tarot sized cards (120mm x 70mm)
In addition to the sumptuous artwork, Peter also produced a letter and number sampler to allow a Noggin the Nog font to be produced exclusively for the game.
Every effort has been taken to keep the look, feel and background of the game as faithful as possible to the original theme and concepts first produced by the Smallfilms partnership of Peter Firmin and Oliver Postgate in 1957. It was Peter's expressed wish that the game should appeal to young and old alike. I hope that Tales of the Northlands does this and is a suitable homage to a classic of children's story telling as well as providing a challenging strategy game for gamers of all ages.
What players have been saying about Tales of the Northlands (Standard ruleset):
"...a reasonably heavy worker placement style game......Overall I was really impressed with this." Simon Neale, Opinionated Gamers
"Tales of the Northlands is a fantastic worker placement game with a very interesting time mechanic. If you aren't familiar with Noggin the Nog (or even if you are), don't let the theme fool you, this is a game packed full of meaty, interesting decisions that will have players working together one moment and undercutting each other the next. And that theme I mentioned earlier? It is absolutely delightful and ties the entire game together in a way that blew me away. Do not miss this game!" Adrian Richardson, Mile High Game Guys
"Even if I wasn't a Noggin-head this is a very engaging worker-placement style of game, and the "semi-cooperative* element really sets it apart from other meeple games." Nigel Schaay-.Manchester Gamers
"...there's a lot going on, on that board...it can get really nasty, in the best way possible. Doesn't have to be, but can be if you are the group who plays Caylus." Edward Uhler, Heavy Cardboard
Thanks to David Wood of the Little Soldier Company, a full range of licensed figures from the world of Noggin the Nog have been produced. We are extremely fortunate to have the game related figures made especially available as a limited edition deluxe add-on to the standard game. Superbly sculpted and cast in white metal, these miniatures can be painted or used with the game counters to enhance the gaming experience.
Noggin, Nooka, Knut and Graculus
Thor Nogson, Olaf 'the lofty', Romf and Nogbad the Bad
In addition to these figures, customised wooden resource counters are included for the fish, wood and crops;
30 Fish 38 Wood 24 Crops
These enhanced components take the game to the next level for all fans of Noggin the Nog and the gaming enthusiast.
This Deluxe add-on is a limited edition and will not be available outside of the Kickstarter. However Noggin the Nog themed figures will be available after the campaign, directly from The Little Soldier Company as part of a larger collection of Nogs.
NEWS FLASH (14th May 2018): A new pledge level has been included to allow the wooden resources (not the figures) to be purchased as an extra add-on for those who missed the limited edition. Please note that they cannot be purchased separately without the base game.
The standard game is presented as a stand alone quality product, but it cannot be produced without your support. In recognition of this, the MRSP of £60 for the standard game is reduced to £50 for all Kickstarter backers. Consider this an extended early bird discount as the first stretch goal for achieving the funding target.
As an independent publisher, we have realistic aspirations of what the sales numbers for this game will be. As a result there are no anticipated economies for sales running to 1000's of units. However the core components have been carefully budgeted for and a conscious decision has been taken to deliver the game with an exceptionally high level of quality components regardless of stretch goals. This game contains no cardboard tokens, all counters and markers are made from wood and a significant sum has been invested in the commissioning of original artwork. Backers of this game will receive a product of exceptional quality.
We believe that stretch goals should be a meaningful thank you for supporting a project beyond the funding target and a provide worthwhile addition to the core game, not just a frivolous or cheap gimick. So 4 stretch goals have been identified which will be genuine enhancements to the game and of a quality to at least equal or surpass the components already intended for the box. These will be kept secret until the previous stretch goal is achieved. We promise that you won't be disappointed.
Tales of the Northlands will be demonstrated the UK Games Expo over 1st -3rd June and the Kickstarter campaign will close on 6th June. The game is fully playtested and the design has been refined for 8 months to iron out any residual bumps to ensure a smooth and enjoyable gaming experience. All artwork and design information is already in the hands of the manufacturer, Wingo, who we have used previously and have demonstrated their ability to to work to an agreed programme and to achieve a high, reliable level of quality.
Production of the game is intended to commence in June to give sufficient time for manufacture and shipping to the UK in good time prior to Spiel 2018 in Essen in October.
Distribution will be coordinated by an established UK based fulfilment company. For the Standard game the postage costs are included in the pledge levels for your location.
The deluxe pledge level involves a higher package weight which takes it over over 2kg. Unfortunately this results in increased postage costs that vary considerably dependent upon your location in the world. We have subsidised this cost to make it more affordable but the rates detailed in the pledge categories will need to be added to your pledge amount.
Backers outside of the EU should check their local customs duty thresholds to establish if any duty is payable for their region.
Risks and challenges
The game will be manufactured by a company we have worked with before, and we are confident in their ability to deliver the required quality to the agreed programme. At the time of this project going to launch, all of the finished artwork and design information is in their hands , has been priced, and awaits the success of the campaign to allow the instruction to be given to proceed.
It is our intention to use a well established fulfilment company for the delivery of the game once received in the UK. Dependent upon how smoothly manufacturing and shipping completes it is the intention to ship the games within one week of receipt within the UK. No copies will be released for retail sale before the Essen launch. Delivery times will vary according to your local postal services.
All transactions are in £ (UK) Sterling. Please check your local exchange rate to confirm costs in your currency. By backing this project, you indicate that you have read, understood and agreed with the above.
