I am raising funds to complete the set up and operation of a miniatures production studio here in the United States. A facility with the knowledge and know how to bring your original parts or sculptings to life.
By having a production facility here in the United States, miniatures companies can avoid many of the pitfalls of sending their original work out of the country, thereby avoiding potential delays, mishandling and costly fees. A facility that welcomes you to come by, inspect and even watch your items being manufactured.
I currently have all of the equipment needed for the processes, over $15,000 worth.... This includes (but is not limited to);
Centrifugal casting machine for production spin casting of both resin and metal miniatures, Melting furnace / crucible for melting pewter, industrial vulcanizer for creating the spin casting molds, vacuum and pressure casting vessels, wax injectors and digital programmable kiln and investment casting machine for investment castings ( brass, silver, gold for those special pieces), and over 20 years of experience in mold making and casting of resins and metals.
That past experience includes having cast miniatures for companies like;
Imperial Hobby Products ( ships and trains )
Tom's Modelworks ( ships and aircraft )
Copper State Models ( aircraft and figures )
Liberty Model Productions ( aircraft, figures, armor )
Fisher Model & Pattern ( aircraft and automotive )
Valley Figures ( figures )
Lone Star Models ( aircraft )
Squadron Shop ( model accessories )
And a variety of other clients in the scale model and miniatures markets.
The project funding will allow me to secure the physical location, and set up a miniatures production facility. It will provide for the stocking of all the necessary supplies to facilitate immediate production, without delays for material acquisition, and get products into your hands with very short lead and turnaround.
Additionally, beyond the target goals include adding in house rapid prototyping and cnc equipment to help streamline the development process from sketches or artwork to finished reality.
By providing a domestic manufacturing facility for your production, you can proudly proclaim "Made in the USA" on all of your miniature gaming pieces.
Risks and challenges
I am currently in negotiations for leasing a suitably sized workshop to set up production. I feel the risks are minimal and primarily that of securing enough financial backing to allow me to focus on production. The financial needs are that of leasing the building, stocking the materials and ensuring adequate supplies.
For the production itself, I am completely confident in my abilities to produce high quality castings. This is born of my past experiences in molding and casting as a hobby business in the past. I have produced some of the highest quality castings ever seen in such scale miniatures markets as; model railroad, aircraft, armor, ships, figure and automotive segments.
All submissions for production will be protected by Intellectual Property Rights and Non Disclosure agreements. Commercial liability Insurance will protect against physical loss or damage.
The future success of this enterprise is not solely in the hands of the gaming market, as I will also be doing mold making and casting for other markets as well.
The pricing structure for these services is easily understood with no hidden fees or surprises. Tooling fees and production fees are broken down concisely. Actual production costs are based on material choices and are on a per piece basis, with the ability to choose from 1 to an unlimited number of castings.
