The new Pro

Hey Backers! We love the opportunity you gave us for making Equiso happen. It's been a bumpy ride with some growing pains along the way. But hey, thats the life of a startup and a kickstarter project.

We want to introduce our new Pro model to our backers. A dual core arm cortex a9 with 1gb ram, 8gb hdd and tf slot. Everyone who bought a Pro will be upgraded for free!

When is the Pro going to ship?

We have been working on our new Pro for a while and the components for the our other model were taking too long. Instead of waiting for the components we decided to upgrade everyone to our new model. Shipping is estimated to be for the second half of November.

Can we say thanks enough? It might have been just $99 for you, but it was alot for us and it added up.

Help us make Equiso better

We want to make the Pro even better. Keep the comments coming. Every comment helps us make a better product. We love to hear what you have to say, the good and the bad.

Spread the word

If you like us, spread the word. Like us on Facebook. Follow us on Twitter. Tell your friends. We couldn't have gone this far without you. Spread the word about our new Pro so that we can continue to create a better product.

Yawn, still waiting for our pro but I guess back to using our Apple TV!!!

    3. Daniele Giovannini on November 3, 2012

the user experience is really bad ...
slow, lag and excessively high failure ...
the product is really buggy, the software has to be rewritten,
the hardware is not optimized and under sized
It would be fair to refound the money!

    4. Shane Felgate on November 2, 2012

no updates in over 3 weeks, common y'all we helped you out let us know your progress

I receive my package today from Hong Kong, how come? And the kit come without any instruction sheet about how to fit to TV and instruction to use the remote. Is what I have received is considered complete?

    9. David Dawczyk on October 23, 2012

All i can say is November cant come soon enough.

Though I am curious what the A9 is being clocked at, or are you guys not done finalizing the clocks yet?

    10. CK on October 22, 2012

It will be awesome if the pro can be shipped with Jelly Bean but most important thing is the wifi reception. Hopefully the reception can be further improved.

Is the dual core 1GHz or 1.5GHz?

    11. Equiso Smart TV Creator on October 21, 2012

@Craig Bibb. Email so that we get the issue resolved.

Please, please include the carat (normally above the 6 on the QWERTY keyboard) in the pro.

@Equiso.. thank you very much for the enhancements in the new pro model.. really excited!!!

Lot of users who opted for standard model have issues with wifi when using remote.. this looks more like a hardware issue rather than a software issue.. any chance this is getting fixed for the pro model? also it would be awesome if you can post any pictures of the new pro model.

    16. Equiso Smart TV Creator on October 19, 2012

@Rob. The cpu does little for video. The VPU does most video and uses hardware decoding. Alot of streaming media players have a 200 mhz cpu and stream HD fine because of an onboard vpu.

    17. Rob on October 19, 2012

@Equiso Smart TV: all I know is, mine is sluggish launching an app, and even struggles when I'm just flipping through the settings menu or app/widget menu. Earlier it rebooted when I just switched an option on and then off in the settings. When I try to watch videos on Amazon, they're completely unwatchable because they're so incredibly choppy. It freezes up more than half the time when I try to play Amazon video. So I have a hard time imagining that the pros' CPUs were upgraded solely because of a sourcing problem. I think you were disappointed with the base product but shipped it anyway, and then tried to make the best of a potentially bad situation by upgrading the rest of the units.

Personally, I would have rather seen much less aggressive delivery estimates and a more stable hardware configuration up front, along with inclusion of the CPU upgrade in the stretch goals or the same CPU upgrade across the board.

    18. CK on October 19, 2012

Great news! I hope the remote control micro USB port can get strengthen from falling out. Is the hardware design a complete redesign? As I went through some other android sticks, wifi problem exists in a small stick like this. Some said they redesign the antenna for boosted reception, what will Equiso planning to do? Is it only through software optimization?

    19. Equiso Smart TV Creator on October 19, 2012

@Jesse Rich. Not to give you a canned response, this is what I just answered earlier. The defect rate in the remote is currently at .72%. Its the first month it out went and it will probably go up slightly over time as the remote gets more use. We are working on fixing the problem so that our defective rate for the remote in the future will be at .1% or lower.

@Equiso: Well done! I'm very pleased to hear this update, especially after all the hoopla surrounding the standard model. This is another indication that you're taking your backers seriously and that you're in it for the long-haul. Please keep up the good work, and keep us informed as news becomes available. Any update for the remote problems people have been having?

    21. Steve Favorito on October 19, 2012

@Robyn - as stated in the above update: "Shipping is estimated to be for the second half of November."

    22. Steve Favorito on October 19, 2012

These enhancements on the pro model are really great. I was starting to lose interest after hearing all the reports of the standard model being buggy and slow...but now with the new cpu and microSD slot I am excited again! Very glad I chose the Pro model now.

    30. Adam Skibbe on October 19, 2012

"... it will be great for HD content." I thought this was the promise before, and when it shipped? That was what we were told. At this point it's very hard to be optimistic.

    31. Equiso Smart TV Creator on October 19, 2012

@Rob. We had over a thousand people get the Pros. The VPU in the original is very powerful and once the bugs have worked out, it will be great for HD content. The Pro model is more for enthusiasts. Both models will have a similar experience when it comes to media content.

    32. Rob on October 19, 2012

DerekC raises a very good question. How did you deal with the heat issue?

    33. Rob on October 19, 2012

This is nice for the 545 pro backers, but it seems like it was done at the expense of the nearly 2200 other backers who actually made your campaign successful with $187,602 of funding. All of us are stuck with a low-end device that doesn't work as advertised. I guess at least you didn't take the money and run, but I still feel scammed. I really hope you fix the base model.

    34. Fergal Butler on October 19, 2012

Now I'm sad that I had the survey option to get the Pro model later on, but chose to go with the standard because I wanted to get it sooner rather than later.

    37. Equiso Smart TV Creator on October 19, 2012

@Adam Skibbe. We will continue to support both models of the Equiso Smart TV. Both will continue to get upgrades. The Original Equiso will continue to be available, it is not being replaced. We are working to get the most amount of content and provide the best experience on the Original and the Pro.

      - Adam

    38. Adam Skibbe on October 19, 2012

So, @Equiso. Does this mean that, after all, you don't expect us to get a decent response/quality out of our standard models? When are we to expect this firmware update?

    39. Equiso Smart TV Creator on October 19, 2012

@bonmot. At the time. All a9 chipsets had every IO onboard making it produce alot of heat. In our new chipset, almost all IOs have been removed creating little heat and the chipset has been optimized for a form factor this small.

@Equiso, you just maid my day with 'dual core arm cortex a9', Thank you!!!

    41. bonmot on October 19, 2012

      Seems to contradict the FAQ:
"When we tested the A9 processor, we noticed it would overheat after a couple hours of use, due to the small size of the case. While it is possible to build an A9 into the Smart TV, the only way to make it work is to drastically reduce the speed, which lowers performance. The new redesigned Arm Cortex A5 can run at 1ghz while the A9 can only run at 600mhz before overheating. With heat being such a concern and since the A9 clock speed must be reduced, the A5 was chosen as it can run much faster under these conditions and provides a better experience. The A5 is the perfect processor for a case this small.

I got my standard Equiso about a week ago and it works fine. Netflix streams in HD. Other than the wifi signal being kinda weak it works as well as 4.0.1 on a tablet.

As for the dual core. Thank you for the upgrade.

    43. Jesse "Master" S. on October 19, 2012

One of the deciding factors for me going Pro was the wifi direct stretch goal that sadly didnt work out. Is there any plans to include wifi direct in the pro model or are the specs pretty set in stone now?

    48. Steve Levy on October 19, 2012

Yeah well the base model is probably best used as a cocktail stirrer. At least this sounds like it might actually work as advertised. They should have started this on Kickstarter today offering the new improved Pro model for $99 instead of taking $69 off of a bunch of suckers and making them wait for a useless stick.
