Software updates and troubleshooting

Most of you have received your Equiso's and some of you will be receiving them shortly. We thought we would do a quick write up to help with troubleshooting, talk about software updates and customer feedback.

Being a kickstarter project and a startup we are grateful to our backers who have chosen to back us and be beta testers to help make a better product. Its not always an easy job, but we promise to make it worth it. We have received great feedback from what works and the uses that people are using for their Equiso, to the difficulties of a new product launch from a startup company. You guys have been awesome and we love that our backers are so active on Facebook, kickstarter, twitter, etc... You guys have also helped us be in retail stores with the first being Micro Center (thanks for telling your family and friends about us and check us out at their Baltimore store grand opening).

Troubleshooting

You probably noticed that the Equiso didn't ship with a user manual. The user manual on the back of the box is a little too simple and has lead to confusion. While we are working on creating a user manual, we will work to answer your questions by email. Please email any questions to support@equiso.com to get the quickest answer to your question.

Software Updates

During the last month while the products were shipping we have been working on a firmware update. The update will include a number of improvements including support for the Google TV remote, DLNA support, better autodetect of TV resolution and speed improvements.

      Got mine and i am quite disappointed with the build quality - micro usb falling out (was rushed and it shows). The performance was really slow, good thing I had purchased an MK802 - http://www.aliexpress.com/item/New-released-1G-RAM-4GB-ROM-Android4-0-IPTV-google-tv-smart-android-box-allwinner-A10/568711444.html. I quickly reconnected my MK802.
      I do like the remote and i am using it with my MK802.

      I agree with fmotta. I like having it come nice and clean, especially since it doesn't have a huge amount of storage/RAM/etc. to begin with.

      For those who want to have apps pre-installed I have a counter desire.

      Personally, I would rather have only the minimum software needed to operate the product and maybe showcase a unique feature and/or device drivers.

      I spend far too much time removing bad/unneeded software from products already. Since I do not have nor want most of the services that are needed to use all of the apps shown on the box it's be an annoyance if I HAD to hack the ROM to get space for the apps I do want or rid the product of applications that take up valuable resources (CPU time/memory/storage/bandwidth).

      Most of the applications on the iphone and most production android phones are rubbish and need be removed and replaced with good or better apps, or just removed all together. Sadly, in some cases this means hacking the product and in other cases it means that you need to pitch the device because the manufacturer won't allow a competing application to their sub-par version (cough-iphone).

      So, Equiso, I appreciate the bare "white space" I was provided so I can use the product more to my liking and please, do not install additional service-bound applications such as NetFlix/Hulu+/Pandora/Slacker/...

      I just got an email saying that my Equiso has shipped. I wonder why this didn't happen four days ago when "my order was processed". I also why you are fucking over "international" (a.k.a. non-US) customers when your product is made in China and shipped from Hong Kong.

      The Equiso is setup for OTA updates. The first couple of firmware updates will be downloadable just to make sure everyone is getting them.

      @MasterBlaaster. Yes, we have been working on enabling usb ethernet adapters. Go to settings, then ethernet settings to enable your usb ethernet adapter.

      I look forward to the updates. So far, my ~8 hours of use with netflix it works well.

      Quick question

      Okay I got a usb hub connected to my Equiso & I wanted to know if I get & connect a "USB to Ethernet Network Adapter" to my hub/Equiso & plug directly into my router will it work?

      I ask because I'm not getting full HD on Netflix no matter what I do over wifi & I know this is a work in progress but I want to solve the low resolution & loading lag I'm getting from all video sites a.s.a.p.!

      Yeah I just got that wireless randomly dieing right now... Also the keyboard is pretty horrible. When trying to type in my google account password it took me a half an hour because I couldnt tell what mode I was in (numbers/symbols or letters!?) and when I hit the key it would sometimes appear twice or 10 times rather than just the one time I hit it.

      Well, it works as advertised... kinda. It's slower than I hope. Both games (Jetpack Joyride) and videos (HBOGo) stutter. I have it plugged into my Samsung TV, even though that one is already a smart TV. Watching Rise of the Planet of the Apes on Equiso it stutters. Switched over to Samsung with no issues. So it's not the wireless or the Internet since they're both wireless and share the same Internet.
      Netflix, TED, and even Google Play apps froze on me. Had to uninstall Netflix and reinstall. And wireless also stopped working at one point even though status showed it has strong signal. Started working again after I stopped and started WiFi. I know we're in beta so I'm going to try to be patient. Not sure if they'll be able to fix the stuttering video and relative slowness.

      @Brian - last time we got an update on the Pro model, shipping was expected to be late October (from China), so perhaps they will arrive before the end of Nov.

      Also, my plug broke the instant I tried it use it. Literally shattered. How do I get a new one?

      I plugged mine in, and it mostly works so far. I have however, run into an issue. When I opened google play, it allowed me to connect the device to my google account. However, attempting to connect youtbe results in a "unfortunately google has stopped" error. Are there updates I need to apply? Is this the correct venue for bug reports?
