About this project
Queen Cunt - Sacred or Profane?
Acclaimed performers China Blue Fish and Deborah Antoinette collaborate to create an hour long sketch show.
“Feminism encourages women to leave their husbands, Kill their children, Practice witchcraft, Destroy capitalism, And become lesbians”
Come and see us do all of this...and more!
Venus is about to collide with Earth! A multi-character melange of opinion paints the stage rainbow coloured, sequined, hairy and fleshy pink…
With characters ranging from Virgin Mary, to Theresa May, Frida Kahlo & Earth Priestesses to Burt the drag king.
In an age where passing trends compel some to surgical operation, where mainstream porn has hijacked sensuality, we delve into the wild waters of womanhood, reclaiming the body in a joyful, dark & often anarchic exploration.
This is the quest of two comedic female performers to tell it how it has never been told before!
Discovering what is left that really is sacred and feminine, and what exactly is profane?
China Blue & Deborah Antoinette are performance art activists, intersectional feminists who make political & socially engaged work. They use the language of movement, poetic text & intimate audience connection to open new possibilities in audiences’ imaginations.
- Our Collaboration -
We have been Researching & Developing sketches for Queen Cunt - Sacred or Profane? throughout 2016.
Our invite to do a week long R&D residency at The Bike Shed Theatre, Exeter in 2016 led to our performing sketches at The Wardrobe Theatre & Circomedia - Testing Ground, to great audience responses. We knew we had to continue creating the show and confirmed our debut at The Wardrobe this September, as well as future bookings at The Bike Shed & The Underbelly at Edinburgh Fringe '18.
This campaign invites you to pledge in support of the first show, at The Wardrobe Theatre, so we can get this baby off the ground! Take a look at the video above.
- Audience Feedback on Sketches -
“I was transfixed by it ”, “Mesmerising”, “evocative, cuts to the bone”
“It made me think of how women take on all the mess, how the next generations will suffer: The parallel between earth and her body... how the effects of Fracking are going into her womb”.
"Powerful and vulnerable, beautiful and thought provoking. China Fish lends her extraordinary voice to the voiceless, and a raw, bleeding empathy to the exploited, in a dizzying crescendo of sound, song and performance art."
“...awe inspiring, powerful, cathartic...”
“Brilliant...playful, perverse and raw- thank you!”
A GREAT BIG THANK YOU for supporting us in our artistic endeavours and life work. This show and campaign signify the start of a collaboration between two performers who love making theatre, and have worked internationally on numerous projects. We are excited to bring together our ideas in this unique creative partnership. Your help will make the difference between a plain rendition and an exciting show for which we can invite lighting designers, producers, set & costume designers to work alongside us to realise its full potential.
Risks and challenges
We are prepared to move mountains to make sure this project happens. We really believe it is time for fresh, fun, female perspectives in a world which is crying out for change.
"Committing to making this show was a risk for us. As a new mum, making work, with all the behind the scenes administration, comes with its challenges (and late nights!). As artists who have made the decision to make this our life's work, we put our hearts and souls into creating performance that we hope will embolden and inspire, create joy and instil confidence. We are so grateful for your help in making this happen. We hope you enjoy the show."
"What China said! And to add, the joy of taking the risk of following a creative idea... something that stirs somewhere in your guts. Trusting somehow, even if it makes no sense, in its absurd visceral urgency to emerge, it will be just the medicine our audiences will delight in. Here's to theatre, play, and the unknown. Thank you for your support!"
