About Mike and the documentary:
Mike Derminio, known as “Mike D,” played college golf at Arizona State from 1999-2004. He lettered three years at ASU and was on the team with current PGA tour stars Jeff Quinney, Chez Reavie and Paul Casey.
In 2004, he turned professional and has played in numerous events, including the 2006 US Open at Winged Foot (qualifying as medalist). He has had low rounds of 63 in tournaments like the Gateway Tour event at Southern Dunes last March and has 11 professional victories. Mike D currently holds the course record of 10 under 62 at the Maidstone Club in East Hampton, NY and 10 under 62 at Superstition Mountain CC in Arizona.
Along with golf, Mike D has a solid film background. He has worked on set during the filming of "Faithful Friends" as a script writer and teleprompter for the Animal planet show. Mike D has also been involved in filming advertisements for companies like Chevy. This spring he worked directly on set for Michele Bachman's response to the State of the Union address at the National Press Club in Washington, DC. Mike has always enjoyed being on both sides of the camera and is looking forward to filming a documentary about his true passion-competitive golf.
Playing professional golf is not an easy road to travel. Lonely nights in hotels, rental cars, bad food and weather changes each week can be challenging. If the cut is missed, a player either goes home defeated or dusts themselves off and travels to the next event (often alone). Golf is not a team sport and performance can be heavily influenced by the mental state. A good round can be enough to keep motivated and optimistic, but failing to make it can be self-destructive. It’s a golfers perception that ultimately makes him or breaks him.
You will experience his dream-the deep burning passion to accomplish the near impossible. “A Golfer’s Humble Journey" will showcase the highs and lows of developmental tour golf.
Thank you for all your support and come be a part of the journey.
