About this project
Take to the seas of silted sand, the Golden Oceans are your portal to distant continents laden with tombs of ancient treasure! Journey through the Sabran Desert to find the hidden city of Fech Fech, battle against savage Garran Giants towering twelve feet high, or struggle through the harsh nights of freezing winds and the terribly vicious sandstorms which force travelers to lose their way.
Trudge through the Osarian Swamps to slay a creature terrorizing the nearby farmers or travel through the Feyish capitol of Duhkur to discover the legendary "Elder-Dark", where it is rumored that derelicts toil with dark and ancient magics. The game of Golden Oceans is an unlimited experience! By utilizing the resources in this book, you and your friends can access literally hundreds of hours of entertainment!
Featuring over THREE HUNDRED special abilities called Confidences, the game of Golden Oceans maximizes character customization, putting control into the player's hand with its revolutionary Destiny mechanic. Also includes a dozen unique cultures from eight different nations, eighteen character motivations, ninety occupations, and extensive descriptions of equipment, consumables, weapons, armor, vehicles, animals, and more!
The game mechanics focus on realism but with an elegant balance of simplicity, to promote fast and easy game play. To mimic the real world, combat was designed with an emphasis on strategy. When you fight with firearms, you use cover and concealment; you flank your enemy and lay down suppressive fire. When engaging in close combat, you do not simply land blows with your weapon, but instead attempt to feint and disarm your opponents in order to gain advantage over them. Golden Oceans imitates these real life techniques in a manageable tabletop setting.
The confidence mechanic allows players to construct fluid characters with diversity and flexibility. The player does not simply choose an archetypal class and race, but crafts the history of his character by choosing his cultural and occupational backgrounds. The prominent goal with character creation in Golden Oceans is that upon completion of his character, the player has a very clear idea of exactly where his character has been and what he has accomplished thus far in his life.
Unlike other games which restrict player's choice by randomized factors (such as die rolls) this game promotes storytelling first, allowing the players to follow their own paths of logic in order to create deep and interesting characters. Besides the variety of different cultural, occupational, reputational, and motivational confidences, the players can also choose from a dozen different specialized classes, potentially unlocking hundreds of unique special abilities. This adds an additional level of complexity and diversity to the game, allowing each member of the party to feel "special" while giving players incentives for advancement.
The player can choose to be an Inventor, allowing him access to technologies not acquirable by other players. Or perhaps the player would prefer to focus on combat, in which case he might rather be a Marksman or Martial Artist, which would grant him a variety of combat bonuses and special attacks which are not obtainable others. Better yet, the player can choose to mix and match confidences without penalty, in order to design the specific individual he wishes to play. Overall, Golden Oceans unlocks a unique plethora of adventures with a focus on engaging storytelling.
The game of Golden Oceans is set in an exotic and dangerous land. Once a lush paradise, the world has since been warped by an ancient cataclysm, leaving behind mostly barren desert and oceans viscous with abrasive silt. The Draeicks, a prehistoric civilization credited with the founding of science and magic, almost destroyed the planet in an epic conflict which led to their demise. Now, thousands of years later, humanity has advanced from primitive hunters to an industrial power with potential for global supremacy.
In the wastelands, you will rely heavily on your equipment for survival, but ultimately you will require on creativity and strategy to persevere against all odds. With each book of Golden Oceans, you will not only be purchasing a game, but also a unique story, illustrating the details of the bizarre people, places, and creatures found in this world. Utilize the resources in this book to adventure through this dangerous world or create your own setting to use as a backdrop with the game’s highly flexible ruleset. Ultimately the goal of Golden Oceans is to grant freedom to the players in order to promote fun and creative storylines in bizarre and deadly situations.
