About

Print-A-Part 3d, a Virginia based engineering firm, announces the opening of its innovative 3d parts e-commerce site www.printapart3d.com.  Targeted at small repair shops, hobbyists, and manufacturing companies, who collectively use over 1 billion small parts daily, in the US alone.  Parts offered include industrial parts such as screws, bolts, nuts, and washers.  Products are delivered by digital download as ready to use .STL files, allowing customers to print the necessary parts immediately with an inexpensive 3d printer and no technical staff.

Bob Al the director of the Print-A-Part start-up team says "many state-of-art automotive and machine parts are made of plastic to save weight in the final assembly, and these shops are our target".

Print-A-Part sees itself as the "killer apps" that will stimulate the sales of 3d printers, much like spreadsheets sky-rocketed the sales of personal computers in the 1990's.  Head design engineer, Gare Henderson, says "we are stimulating the development of high-end 3d designers, by providing a robust marketplace for the designs of freelance and home based 3d developers.  100's of designers from over 40 countries have joined the Print-A-Part family as designers.

Print-A-Part products will also be marketed through established on-line retailers including; Amazon, AliBaba, and others.

Funds will be used for daily operations, but the primary use of funds will be to purchase long runs of display ads in industry magazines.  Our ads will target auto repair shops, dentists, light manufacturing, and other businesses which use small parts and work under time pressure.

Print-a-part 3d strives for B-corporation status, and profits will be split between investors and charitable donations to assist develop geo-engineering drought mitigation projects like the INDRA-RAIN.com project.

Risks and challenges

Let me tell you a story! One of my first jobs out of grad school, was selling elevators to rich people in Beverly Hills CA. These people had beautiful mansions with marble swimming pools, the works. What struck me was that few of these people were movie stars, or captains of industry. They had made their money from the dullest of businesses, parking lots, concrete, roofing materials.

That's what we are doing, and we will have a lot of competition. Our primary challenge is in stocking our cyber-shelves and reacting to competitive challenges. We must also fight the trend which de-values the work of 3d designers by giving their work away for free.

We are concentrating on building the dull everyday 3d printing market, and becoming one of its true pioneers...join us.
