Geltfiend needs you!
It's about time that we had something awesome to wear around the holidays. Chanukah deserves the love---it's been the ugly stepsister for a while.
We've put everything we have---hearts, minds, and yes, our tax refund money, into designing Chanukah sweaters that will definitely (1) keep you warm, (2) set you apart from the Christmas sweater-wearin' folk, and (3) make you look good. Damn good.
All funding through this Kickstarter will go right towards paying for actual sweater-production. No money, no production, which means one more year of extra large, ill-fitting thriftstore sweaters with felt menorah cut-outs safety-pinned to them. Clench your fists, stare at the ceiling and say it with us: "Nooooooooooo!!"
Let's make this happen!
Here are the sweaters (click through for more images on our website):
And here's what the vintage viewmasters look like---first come, first serve, so if you have a fave model in mind, you'd better hop on it:
Geltfiend has been the source of an incredible amount of joy for me over these past few months, and I'm so excited to share it with everyone!
I've spent the past several years as an accountant (surprise, surprise) in the fashion-industry, but have always wanted to put my heart and soul into a creative project of my own. I've had the opportunity to master the business/financial side of the fashion industry, and finally having something to channel my creativity and passion into has been an incredible experience.
I'm the daughter of immigrants that really struggled with American holidays, never knowing to what degree us Jews were supposed to participate. That led to a lot of Jewish angst in my little kid brain. It also led to a few returned Valentines, a couple of Halloweens hiding in a back room of the house with the lights off, and a terrifying experience sitting on Santa's lap at the mall with my mom giving me dagger eyes from too-far-away-to-do-anything-about-it.
These days, being Jewish and being American seem very reconcilable, and Geltfiend is a celebration of that union between culture and national identity. We can have our gelt and eat it, too.
I am incredibly thankful to all the people in my life that have helped so far, and I'm also thankful to all of the people whose help and support is yet to come. I can't wait to celebrate this Chanukah knowing that Geltfiend has made those Chanukah candles burn juuuust a little brighter.
