Frequently Asked Questions
The $10 reward is cheaper than retail price. Shouldn't I just buy the books on Amazon to help you more?
Nope - removing Amazon's cut of the royalties means I actually make slightly more on the three books selling them this way than I do via Amazon.Last updated:
It's written and in the process of being revised. I got interest from a traditional press, and that slows things down a bit, but the book is done, all backers have a copy of the draft, and things are proceeding at a slower pace than expected, but at a reasonable one.Last updated:
It's easy - just add $15 to any reward tier ($20 for international backers) to pre-order the Logopolis book. The Logopolis book will be print-only (an ebook can't really mirror the physical design of the Choose Your Own Adventure books) and will be available on Amazon once it's printed, but if you want to pre-order it via the Kickstarter, that's how. So if you're at the $50 "all four books" tier, increase that to $65 to get Logopolis added in.
If your tier includes any signed books, I'll sign Logopolis as well. The $250 tier already includes Logopolis automatically.Last updated:
Basically, we'll talk. After all, while I don't have firm lists of essays for any forthcoming books (save for Hartnell, obviously), I have ideas of what I am and am not planning on doing, and if you name one I was already fairly certain I was going to do, I don't want to take your money and then do what I was going to do anyway. So my plan is basically that if you pick something that was already fairly likely to appear I'll say "OK, you get that one for free, pick another," and as long as your other isn't something horrible I don't want to cover at all, I'll do that one too.
Basically, fear not. You'll get your money's worth.Last updated:
It's a fair question. There are a couple reasons why not.
1) The ebook that's included with most tiers is basically a freebie. My distribution costs on an ebook are zero, so I just added one in to every pledge level above $5 as a thank you. None of those pledge levels had their prices increased to account for the ebook.
2) The pricing on the Starter Pack is, in effect, giving the Hartnell First Edition away for free. I make just over $3 a book on Amazon, so it's the first three books at the same price I make on Amazon, plus the imminently-obsolete first edition of Hartnell thrown in for free.
So even at the combined price you're still getting one thing for free, and everything at a substantive discount from retail. (The price for a print edition of one book and ebooks of four on Amazon is $35, and you can get it for $25 here.)Last updated:
Sure thing. Right now there are three upgrades that can be added to existing pledges. To upgrade, just increase your pledge amount appropriately. You don't need to change your reward - I'll figure out who bought what (possibly by e-mailing people to ask) at the end.
Upgrade #1: Logopolis Book. Add $15 to any pledge ($20 for international backers). Can be added to any reward level from $1 up.
Upgrade #2: TARDIS Eruditorum Starter Pack. Add $10 to any pledge. Can be added to any reward level from $15 up.
Upgrade #3: Numbered Copies. Add $30 to any pledge. Can be added to any reward level from $50 up.
Example: Let's say you have the $75 Torchwood/Sarah Jane/Sherlock extra essay level, and live in Iceland. You'd like the numbered books and the Logopolis book, but not the starter pack. So you'd add $30 for the numbered books, $15 for Logopolis, and $5 for shipping Logopolis, for a total of $50. Your new pledge level would be $125, but you would still pick the $75 reward.Last updated:
