The new Beta 5 update of Starwhal is now live. Here's what you can expect:
Challenge Mode - this is an early preview of the single player mode that tests your STARWHAL skills. You have two different types of challenges; obstacle and target mode. In obstacles, you just need to make it to the finish line as fast as you can. In target mode, you want to hit all the floating heart targets as fast as possible. There are also a couple of other neat features:
Ghosts - your play gets recorded and uploaded so you can race against yourself, a Steam friend, as well as somebody who is close to your existing performance
Highscores - Try to get faster times to unlock the coveted Platinum Medal.
Leaderboards (coming soon) - not in this preview build, but upcoming versions will have Steam Leaderboard information displayed in game.
Visual Overhaul of the UI on most screens
On the Player Selection screen you now have to ready up before going to the next screen (This means less accidental clicks to go to the next screen)
Mode select now gives you more freedom of the type of game you want to play
The settings in the Options menu now save their state between different game sessions
There are now some full screen effects that happen occur during slow mo, and on heart hits (These can be disabled in the options screen)
Xbox One controller support on windows
More new awesome music tracks and sounds!
The Starwhal player has been made more sleek for improved jousting!
When a heart is hit in versus mode there is now a shattering effect to show how long the heart is invulnerable for
Ice blocks are now a bit easier to break in the Foresaken world
The Level “Fast Forward” has been tweaked
Fixed the long standing and mysterious issue where sometimes a heart icon in the GUI won’t appear in Classic mode
The camera now better frames the action on the versus levels
The curved blocks in the levels are now smoother so it is easier to slide on them
Key Bindings:Adding/Removing AI on the keyboard are now changed to the P and O keys respectively from the +/- keys. In the Player selection screen the confirm button for the WASD controls is the ‘Space’ key
Recently we had a really great time at the Evolution 2014 fighting game gathering in Las Vegas. Watching the determined faces of all the entrants was worth it alone. Everybody seemed to enter their respective tournaments with such laser focus. Once players got eliminated they’d go right back to cheering on those still in the brackets and generally trying to GET HYPE. So happy we made it out there and made some new friends!
There’s more to come! We’re coming to a party near you! Well, maybe it’s near you. Starwhal will be making appearances at a number of upcoming events. Most notably:

New Preview build incoming!
We’re so close to sharing a new build of the game with some great stuff for you to try out. The two biggest features of this build are the addition of a challenge mode preview as well as the new UI updates we were speaking about in our previous update.
We’re including a small set of challenge levels for you to try out in this update. The intent here is to get you guys a small taste of the challenge training levels, meanwhile we can test out our new technology on a smaller scale.
We’ll drop the next update on you as soon as it’s live in a week or two, along with extra notes for what you can expect. Hopefully we can share our overall release schedule with you shortly, too. Even talking about releasing gets us excited!
More Backer Rewards
We’re just about ready to send out the soundtrack codes and backgrounds to our backers! Thanks for being so patient on this. We’ve been trying to decide what to do about the soundtrack, as it’s actually still in development. We’re going to try and get you all the tracks that are in Starwhal now, and possibly give you an update for tracks that are making it into future builds as well! The desktop background is going to be a brand new custom designed piece of Starwhal art.
Again, thanks to all those who consistently send feedback or post encouragement on our social media. We’ve been working hard to get this stuff to you as soon as we can!
