Premium quality Holographic Playmats!
* Made in the USA
* Photo-realistic 1200dpi 5 color prints
* Holographic "foil" color shifting effect
* Non-slip surface
We want to thank everyone for viewing this Kickstarter page. At Gencon 2013, we showcased our new holographic playmats to a very select number of individuals with amazing responses! For the past four months, we've been developing, tinkering, and printing variations of the playmat that are cost effective, durable, and high quality. This holiday season, we are looking to deliver these direct to you!
Made in the USA!
By donating to this kickstarter campaign, you are supporting Made in the U.S.A. trading card supplies! Most are made in China to save on costs. These poor quality mats are mass produced with a bottom line. Donating to this project will allow us to pre-purchase all of the necessary materials needed to begin mass production, pay royalties, package, and ship your product!
Most playmats are screen printed at approximately 150DPI. Our holographic playmats are printed at 1200DPI! This photo-realistic level of detail is equivalent or higher than the same trading cards you're placing on top!
Full Silver Rainbow Holographic "Foil" Color Shift!
By using a patented process, the image printed on your playmat will feature the exact same holographic color shift as your premium foil trading cards!
Each mat will be highly durable with a plastic film laminate with non-slip surface. You will be able to roll them for easy transport, however you can't fold or crease the playmats. This durability will allow your mat to stand the test of time!
DESIGNS TO CHOOSE FROM:
Example of the Altered Art card printed on top of a genuine Legends of the 5 Rings card
The above image is a sample we made for a client who wanted a custom altered-art version of the Legends of the Five Rings card Akodo Dairuko. They started by sending us the original full-bleed promo. Next, we printed directly on top of the card the following image, and shipped it back to them. By purchasing the custom reward, we will do the exact same for you with whatever piece of artwork you want, (as long as we have permission from the original artist).
* 50k funding goal
Our goal is to achieve 50k in funding for this project. The reason we started with the lower amount of 30k, is because this is the bare minimum we require, (including fees, shipping, etc), to start full scale production. Prior to announcing these projects, we've invested thousands of dollars and man-hours into patenting practically every variation of the holographic playmat. This will prevent other companies from making cheap knock-off's which may hurt or damage this new industry. If we can get at least 1700 mats shipped via the donations, we can reach this goal!
* A LOT of artists are already signed on to the project!
Some of the artists already signed on are:
Steve Argyle, Boti Aarok, Conceptopolis, Drew Baker, Hanna Boving, Joe Slucher, Jonas De Ro, Josu Hernaiz, Lee-Ying, (syncmax), MrBrown, Pablo Fernandez, RK Post, Sam Flegal
With several dozen more! We are going with Steve Argyle and Syncmax, because we wanted to limit the number of designs we offered. Once we are up and running, we will have hundreds of different designs to choose from. Here's an example of MrBrown's work:
* We will drive up to 300 miles to host your EDH Commander event!
Is your store located on the east coast? Do you have a huge EDH commumity? If you buy the 500$ EDH package, we will drive to you to host your first event! Sit back, relax, and let us take care of all the details. All you need to do is collect the money, promote the event, and have us take care of the rest!
* SPECIAL BONUS IF WE CAN GET FUNDED BY OCTOBER 22, 2013!
If you donate at least 30$ to the kickstarter, and we achieve funding by October 22nd, 2013, (two weeks after this campaign starts!), We will include a second playmat ABSOLUTELY FREE! That's TWO playmats for every person who donates before October 22nd!
Donating AFTER October 22nd? You won't receive an extra playmat, but you will receive a free art print by Syncmax! This is a 2.5X3.5 inch holographic print featuring some really stunning art!
(Please note, the second playmat will be random!)
Risks and challenges
Getting the money:
The biggest hurdle has been funding in this economic downturn. The amount we are requesting isn't even considered a micro-loan to banks. Unless your company follows a standard business model and makes over a million dollars a year, it's impossible to get a loan to start a business.
This is why I love sites like Kickstarter. Our fans can use this platform to directly assist us in starting these projects. Furthermore, the gifts we give allow us to repay these fans for their support.
Designing the prototype:
We've manufactured countless samples over the last few months to various degrees of success. Playmats are generally designed to be durable, fold-able, and an after-thought to protecting your trading cards. Our fans have requested a new take on the playmat; something they can show off, and easily transport.
Paying the legal fees:
Patenting anything in the USA is definitely ONLY designed for big business. Each patent cost thousands of dollars and takes years to process. This involves lawyers, filing, drawings, and a ton of headaches. If it's a playmat and holographic,metallic, color shifting, etc.; it's made by us!
A new product in a field of established competitors:
Due to Hasbro and Ultra-pro's near monopoly in the playmat market, it's nearly impossible to introduce new ideas to the marketplace. For a distributor to pick up our product, it will need to be more profitable than the exclusive only contract some companies force on distributors. Luckily, our product is cheaper, MUCH higher quality, and innovative. We have a lot of distributors already on-board to purchase the mats, however this won't happen until sometime next year. We are ready to go now, so we are starting this campaign to get these mats to our fans by this holiday season. This is a classic example of David vs many Goliaths.
Getting our name out there:
As a new company, promotion is imperative! With your funding, we will have the opportunity to open up stands at Gencon, Comicon, and other Con's!
Shipping the product:
For our campaign to be successful, we need to have our kickstarter fans donate 30k. This is equivalent to 1,000 playmats! These need to be stored, packaged, and shipped to our customers in two weeks! Luckily, we have a dozen volunteers who will help us do this!
Bucking the trend:
Lets face it, for the past ten years there's really been only one type of playmat. A holographic playmat, no matter what the quality is, is a new product that will require a lot of review! It will take us a few months to call up stores, place orders, and get them shipped. After that, the stores will need to review and sell these samples, give us feedback, and finally place their normal-sized orders.
To combat this, we have two sales associates who's job will be to promote and solve these issues.
We are already expecting countless individuals to pirate these products as soon as our name gets out there. Not only will this directly harm the growth of our company, but it will confuse our customers. To combat this, we have a lawyer on retainer who specializes in patent law, and prosecuting individuals who violate this!Learn about accountability on Kickstarter
