Dragon Warlord Game Story and Rules
This game was made after many years of studying dragon history of when the dragons ruled the Earth. There was a traditional law kept in order to become king of all the dragons on Earth. This tradition was that after the Earth’s Dragon King died, any father dragon could raise an army of dragons to fight any other father dragon that desired to become king of all dragons. A father dragon is a ruler over dragons in an area about the size of the state of Virginia. A father dragon would govern and mentor around 300 dragons.
Once a father dragon had raised a large and powerful army, he was considered a Dragon Warlord. Dragon Warlords could then fight any rival Dragon Warlords army and hopefully win the title of Dragon King of the Earth and have the most massive horde of treasure ever collected. When the Dragon Warlord becomes king, he will share some of his treasure horde with his loyal soldiers and make them rulers over all father dragons. These battles to become Dragon King have killed hundreds of thousands of dragons making them extinct.
There are many types of dragons but for this game we will classify them into 3 large families. These families consist of Earth Dragons, Water Dragons and Fire Dragons. The dragon cards will have a colored symbol in the right bottom side of the card which will tell you what family it belongs to. Earth has a green colored symbol, fire is red and water is blue. On the bottom left hand side of the card shows the color of the dice that dragon gets to roll to attack and defend itself unless other rules apply.
There are also Golden Dragons and zombie dragons that also fight in these battles. Golden Dragons and Zombie dragons are in a special category and are not classified in any of the mentioned 3 dragon families.
Golden dragons have a white sphere at the bottom right corner of the card and the zombie dragons have a white sphere. Dragon Warlords can only use the zombie dragons in battle only if they have a dragon zombie talisman.
So the Dragon Warlord needs to amass an army of dragons to fight for him. These dragons consist of an infantry of grunts who are amateur fighters and then there are the seasoned veterans.
The battle starts with each player placing their first roll of 10 cards face up and then the rest of the rows of cards are placed face down except for the Dragon Warlord who is placed face up.
There is a limit of 100 cards of dragons on each side of the battlefield. After all of the cards are placed on the battlefield in rows of 10, each player then rolls the 20 sided dice to see who gets to attack first. One of the seasoned veteran cards must be picked to be the Dragon Warlord.
Then the player with the highest roll gets to have his first 10 dragons attack the first 10 defending dragons. After the first 10 dragons get turns attacking, then it is the other players turn to attack unless there are any wizard cards faced up.
If that player lost any dragons, then the next dragon card is turned over and moves up and takes the place of the fallen dragon that is sent to the dragon graveyard pile.
So, the grunts attack and defend with a 10 sided dice, unless it is ganging up with a dragon on its team to fight an enemy dragon. Only grunts can gang up on the other enemy dragons. When 2 dragons gang up on an enemy dragon, each dragon gets a chance to attack the one enemy defender with a 20 sided dice instead of the 10 sided dice. The decision to gang up must be made before any attacking begins.
There are two dragons the Golden and Zombie which have special abilities. Zombie dragons need to have 2 successful kills against them in order to be sent to the dragon graveyard pile and the Golden dragons get to attack twice in the same turn. Golden and Zombie Dragons cannot be Dragon Warlords.
So, each attacking dragon gets to attack with a 20 sided dice unless the first dragon kills the defending enemy dragon. If the first dragon kills the defending enemy dragon then the second dragon cannot attack a different dragon. The second dragons turn is over. But, if the first dragon does not kill the defending dragon with a roll higher than the defending enemy dragons dice roll, the second dragon gets a chance to attack that enemy.
If the Dragon Warlord has an army of all the same family type such as earth, fire or water, then those dragons get an extra 2 points added to their roll defending or attacking. This rule applies for all the dragons on that team except for the Dragon Warlord.
The season veteran card gets to attack and defend with the 20 sided dice. The Dragon Lord gets to attack with the 20 sided dice but he gets the best out of 2 rolls. The game ends when the Dragon Warlord is defeated and he must have 3 successful attacks against him to be defeated.
Any card that does not have a dragon on it is an attribute card.
Each dragon can only have 3 attribute cards. The attribute cards need to be placed on the dragon when the dragon card is face down. These attribute cards may include 1 mercenary card such as a wizard, 1 dragon weapon, food item and 1 magical item but no more than one of each. After a dragon is killed, its attribute cards leave the battlefield with that dragon.
