The 100% Cotton Hydro Jacket Hoodie is:
Time for a change
Did you know? Greenpeace Germany asked two independent laboratories to test 14 rain jackets and trousers for a broad range of toxins. While there were many different brands, the results were broadly the same: every piece of clothing was found to contain perfluorooctanoic acid (PFOA) The hazardous PFOA as well as other substances within the Perflorinated Chemicals (PFC) group are used to make clothing stain and water-resistant. The price we pay is that PFOA is a persistent pollutant, which means that when the chemical is released into the environment – for example, via production processes – it does not break down. Once contained in food, air and drinking water, these chemicals end up in our bodies and the bodies of other organisms. Recent studies have linked them to reduced fertility and other immune disorders. These results sit in sharp contrast with the typical advertising of outdoor brands, and the image they portray about bringing you closer to nature (source greenpeace).
Starting the change. Let us share this Incredible STORY:
Everything started when Luca met a "crazy" entrepreneur who produces high quality fabrics near Lake of Como. This region is known for the best reputated textile mills supplying to high-end fashion brands worldwide. This guy in his sixties told an incredible story. Passionate about old fabrics he did research in the UK. His aim was to get more details about an old cotton fabric. He heard that it was used by the Royal Air Force in World War II. They produced water resistant suits and jackets for plummeted pilots which finally saved the lives of countless men. These clothes extended the survival time in the sea from a few minutes to almost half an hour. He found out that this special woven, longstaple fabric was higly water resistant due to a finely spun yarn, tightly woven. It was only used until the 1930s when it was finally priced out of the market and being overcome by the enthusiasm of newly developed synthetic yarns.
In short, this guy came back to Italy and started developing new techniques to manufacture this style of cotton fabric. The GOTS certified organic cotton we use consists of high staple fibres tightly woven then twisted more than the norm, and beaten 3 times to make it dense and tight. When the fabric comes in contact with water, it expands and stiffens, repelling water and other liquids; the fibres return to their original softness once dry. For this fabric we use 30% more yarn compared to traditional fabric. That's what's makes the jacket highly wind proof as well. For these reasons our fabric is a 100% natural fabric which in terms of natural breathability and protection has no competition. It Is top of the range.
Goal was reached: 100% water resistant cotton manufactured using a sustainable process. The Idea started from there.
SUPERIOR COMFORT & DETAILS
We have developed 4 comfort details stemming from the Italian Sartorial Tradition and from our research into high performance products for luxury brands. We like the clothes we create and we want to make sure they last for a long time and continue to look good over time.
Both the fabrics and details are selected to ensure they are hard-wearing and long-lasting. Below are some of our trial products using different fabrics and tailoring details, such as Gray, Orange and Black Zips and Cuff closings.
THE HYDRO JACKET IS AVAILABLE IN 3 COLOURS (and 2 more to be chosen as stretch goals)

Risks and challenges
As a niche market company, our main business is producing garments for third parties however, after having heard the story and seen the fabric we decided the time had come to produce something absolutely unique for ourself under own small label. In this way we have just experience in retail but we have strong knowledge from pattern to delivery.
We encourage backers to give us more suggestions, to improve the product and also to visit us in the North of Italy to see the jacket's development. Let us know!!
