About this project
The video you see above is a snippet of one of our educational programs. It's our favorite tea lab Battle of the Bakers from 2012, where two award-winning chefs competed in creating tea-infused desserts. The audience, comprised of tea lovers, tasted the desserts and judged the chefs, while also learned how to use tea in their own dessert making.
Our festival has three levels of Educational Programming: tea tastings (introductory), tea studies (mid-level, includes tastings + lecture) and tea labs, as the Battle of the Bakers above, which is either an interactive or a hands-on workshop. We are also the only tea festival in the U.S. that incorporates and promotes arts from various world cultures with strong tea traditions.
During past festivals, we've featured art, music and dance from India, China, Japan, Great Britain and other countries. We've also screened tea documentaries, such as "The Meaning of Tea" and "All In This Tea", plus cultural films like "Hannari: Geisha Modern", all with talks by the filmmakers.
To sum it up, our Tea Lovers Festival is an annual event and happens every spring in Los Angeles, but we also produce other educational and cultural programs in San Francisco, as well as in other parts of California, such as our popular Tea Lovers Bus Tours. You can view past programming content and images on the ARCHIVES section of our website: www.TeaLoversFestival.com.
WHY DO WE NEED FUNDING?
Since our first public festival in 2006, our Tea Lovers Festival has grown to become the premier tea-focused event in California. However, as this type of festival is still so new and unique to the tea industry, we hardly get any financial support from tea companies -- we rely primarily on the support from our audiences of tea lovers.
In addition, the art space Royal/T, which had been our home-base for the past three festivals, closed its doors last August. Therefore, we've had to look for new festival facilities. This year, most of our main events during the festival will be held at the Armory Center for the Arts in Pasadena (see image below)
We have many production expenses, such as various space rentals and the design and programming of our website. However, any funds that we're able to raise through Kickstarter, will be applied towards the printing of our 32-page full color program, as well as the honorariums for the instructors of our Educational Programming, and the musicians, performers and filmmakers, who will be part of our Cultural Programming.
So we hope that you will contribute to this fundraising effort, as ultimately this festival belongs to everyone -- it's really a community-based cultural event, which revolves around tea. For the tea lover in all of us! :-)

Risks and challenges
After our project is funded, we don't foresee any challenges in producing our Tea Lovers Festival, as we have a lot of experience in doing the event -- this is our 8th year since the festival has been open to the public.Learn about accountability on Kickstarter
