The video you see above is a snippet of our 2013 Tea Lovers Festival, which was held at the Armory Center for the Arts in Pasadena. That festival was actually partly funded by our last Kickstarter campaign. The video, which was created by our friends at Tealet, showcases our Tea Lovers Marketplace, as well as some of our Educational Programming -- two main components of each of our festivals.
Our Tea Lovers Festival has three levels of Educational Programming: Tea Tastings (introductory), Tea Studies (mid-level, includes tastings + lecture) and Tea Labs, which are either interactive or hands-on workshops. We are also the only tea festival in the U.S. that incorporates and promotes arts from various world cultures with strong tea traditions.
During past festivals, we have featured art, music and dance from India, China, Japan, Great Britain and other countries. We've also screened tea documentaries, such as "The Meaning of Tea" and "All In This Tea", plus cultural films like "Hannari: Geisha Modern", all with talks by the filmmakers.
To sum it up, our Tea Lovers Festival is an annual event that happens every May in Los Angeles, but we also produce other educational and cultural programs, such as our popular Tea Lovers Bus Tours in San Francisco, San Diego and Ojai. You can view past programming content and images on the ARCHIVES section of our website: www.TeaLoversFestival.com.
WHY DO WE NEED FUNDING?
This Spring, we'll be entering into our 10th year as a public event -- we are arguably the longest running tea festival in the United States. And to celebrate this important milestone, we're planning on a full year of educational and cultural activities, starting with our annual festival in Los Angeles in May, a 10-year anniversary book release in November and a retrospective exhibition and performance showcase in February of 2016.
Even though we've been around for a decade, this type of festival is still new and unique to the tea industry, so we hardly get any financial support from large tea companies -- we rely primarily on the support from our audiences of tea lovers. And we have many, many production expenses. However, any funds that we're able to raise through Kickstarter, will be applied towards the printing of our full-color festival program/poster, as well as to the expenses associated with any Cultural & Educational Programming during our 2015 festival. Although our festival is a month-long celebration of the love of tea in Los Angeles during May, when it comes to funding, we'd like you to focus on (and save the dates for) our Opening Weekend Festivities in Pasadena, California, which also kick off our 10th Anniversary Celebrations:
Friday, May 1, 2015: TeaVIP Opening Reception featuring Life by the Cup with Zhena Muzyka and the screening of The Story of Tea.
Saturday, May 2, 2015: Various Tea Labs and Tea Studies
Sunday, May 3, 2015: Tea Lovers Marketplace + focused Tea Tastings
We would love to actually go beyond our fundraising goal listed here, so to also be able to apply funds toward the production of our 10-year anniversary retrospective book (see below), as well as toward our cultural activities in 2016, which we mentioned above and which will continue our 10th Anniversary Celebrations.
So we hope that you will contribute to this fundraising effort, as ultimately this festival belongs to everyone -- it's really a community-based cultural event, which revolves around tea. For the tea lover in all of us! :-)
With any pledge level, your name will be included in our 10-year anniversary book (see below), as well as added to our website (under Sponsors).
Our Tea Lovers Festival: 10 Years retrospective book is the main focus of our Pledge Rewards in this fundraising campaign. It is an 8 x 10 inches (20 x 25 cm), 130-150+ pages visual exploration of all of our ten tea festivals, as well as of our tea bus tours in Los Angeles, San Francisco, San Diego and Ojai. In addition to hundreds of images, it also contains ten years of various texts, press, stories and anecdotes. Plus something NEW -- for each of its 15 chapters, we'll be asking some of our esteemed tea chefs and educators, such as Robert Wemischner, Kristy Choo and Zhena Muzyka, to contribute various tea-related recipes on cooking, tea blending and other such topics. The book will be released in 4 different versions:
Digital Version: For iPads and other Mac IOS devices (PDF version for non-Mac devices). Pledge Level: TEA LOVER 01 & 02.
Soft-Cover Version: Or "reading" version, on uncoated paper stock with a gloss soft cover. Pledge Levels: TEA DEVOTEE 01*, 02* & 03*.
Hard-Cover Version: Coffee-table quality, on coated paper stock. Pledge Levels: TEA CONNOISSEUR 01*, 02* & 03*.
Limited-Edition Version: Linen cloth-bound with slip cover (shown above), individually numbered in edition of only 10 copies. This version will also include a section about our 10th Anniversary Celebrations during February 2016 (mentioned above), and would not be available until April of that year. Pledge Levels: TEA DEITY 01* & 02*.
Note: *The printed-book pledge levels also include a digital version of the book. Book design shown above is subject to change.

Risks and challenges
After our project is funded, we don't foresee any challenges in producing our 2015 Tea Lovers Festival or any of our 10th Anniversary cultural celebrations, as we have a lot of experience in doing these events -- this is our 10th year since the festival has been open to the public.Learn about accountability on Kickstarter
