Final Week Bonus!
YEEESSSS We've got a playable build up for you so be sure to check it out: Play the Demo!
And there's more. Look at all this fabulous card art! We're so excited about completing the pack for the game and then.. collectibles! Merch all the things!
Card captions below will tell you the word and region they'll be appearing in.
Seems to me the penguins are sick and tired of being the laughingstock of the animal kingdom and have decided to take charge. It’s a massive offensive of global proportions – which is why they need your help, rook! We need you to defend our bases and defeat our enemies – you’ll have to learn quick and succeed quicker.
So buck up you nancy, cause we’re hitting 10 different locations scattered across the major continents. In each location we will be contending with a powerful indigenous species that wants nothing more than to shame you in front of your family and turn you into a penguin-flavored lunchable.
Whoa, get a hold of yourself son! You got so pale just now you look like a big tic-tac. The penguin army ain’t entering hostile territory without backup.
Now here’s how it works:
The indigenous creatures attack us with a variety of superpowers, each representative of a specific word frequently appearing on the SAT*/GRE**/GMAT*** exams:
All we need to counter them are reflexes, quick thinking, and a little good old-fashioned penguin know-how.
At the beginning of the battle you will be outfitted with one of two cards representing available allied units. You will also receive two additional cards randomly selected from a pair of offensive sorceries and defensive enchantments. All represent vocabulary words that act as potential counters to your enemies.
As our enemies storm the battlefield, you will send you allied unit to face them. Be careful though – if your unit is the incorrect counter to the enemy you’ll have to aid it with spells and enchantments to combat its damage or risk losing the ally.
Our success hinges on your ability to recognize the words represented and successfully assess which of your words will form the appropriate response.
The penguin army leaves no man behind!! Cards all have an activated cool-down so if you pick things randomly, YOU WILL FAIL. DO YOU WANT TO FAIL ME? NO, I DIDN’T THINK SO.
Should your ally fall, your enemy will advance. Let them cross and reach your encampment and they will tear our army apart. It’s up to you to manage your cooldowns carefully and manage your abilities to make sure that NEVER HAPPENS.
Overwhelmed yet? Don’t be.
For some weird reason, I feel compelled to believe in your abilities as a commander rookie. Once you defeat an indigenous species in a certain region, you will have them to utilize as allies in the following mission. It’s up to you to master the abilities of your new allies and the unique spells you receive in each episode to ensure our magnificent rise to power goes unchecked.
So git that dopey look off your face – the pathway to victory is wrought with terrors. Our enemies will get stronger, faster, and deadlier.
Fight effectively, and the globe will be ours. Fight carelessly, and we’ll be in bigger trouble than a baby at a dingo convention.
Onwards fearless comrade – your legend is waiting to be written!

We're actually pretty scrappy and have succeeded in keeping overhead very low. Most of the Kickstarter funds will go into covering production costs for the next few months as we finish and polish the game. This includes stuff like music/audio, artwork, programming and animation for all 10 episodes.
Project and Timeline
We are about 50% along in completing Penguemic. The final product will include 10 episodes, and the full game is due for delivery late October this year. We have a solid pipeline and have contracted a small team of illustrators and animators to help deliver a polished product by the deadline.
LearnDistrict is an indie gaming studio focused on making educational games, based out of sunny San Diego.
We're a core team of 5 - Laila Shabir, Ishtiaq Syed, Yue Li, Andrew Dang and Elijah Hudley.
We're past graduates of MIT, RISD, and USC. Some of us spent several years slaving away in the corporate world, and have given up steady paychecks to work on what we truly love - making video games.
We're very excited to launch Penguemic, and have many more games we'd like to share with the world.
Learning and gaining knowledge are very close to our hearts and we hope to inspire more indie developers to create meaningful and educational experience through games. There's much work to be done!
We wouldn't be able to accomplish our goals without the help of amazing collaborators: Greg McKenna, for creating imaginative character concepts and copy writing, Orissa Jenkins, Melissa Chen and Cheryl Kook for beautiful artwork that bring the penguins to life, Joseph Carrillo for really awesome music, Renzo for help with audio/sound, and Sehrish Saddozai for filling in the gaps wherever the team needs it most!

Risks and challenges
As with every Kickstarter project, there's a timeline risk associated. We've tested our prototype enough to know that it works, and are making progress to the finish line.
However, we have additional collaborators (illustrators/animators) working on the project with us, and things do go wrong including game production delays, reward delivery delays and so forth. When they do, we will communicate issues very clearly with backers through project updates. We'll also be keeping you updated through the LearnDistrict website/blog.Learn about accountability on Kickstarter
We plan to release on the major desktops Windows, Mac, Linux and tablets/phones using iOS. With further support we will also release to other targets such as Android.
The SAT/GRE/GMAT game is intended for players aged 14+, though we will be developing a junior version in the near future.
