Girls Make Games Presents: Interfectorem!

$12,701

Interfectorem is the story of Alis, a young sheriff-in-training who lives alone with her sister Sali in a small town next to the woods.

Alis decides to go on a hike one day, but comes home to find her younger sister brutally murdered! Overcome with grief and vengeance, Alis embarks on a mission to find her sister’s killer by following the trail of bodies the murderer leaves behind. She must return the favor of death!

Interfectorem (which means ‘killer’ in Latin) is a top-down murder mystery designed by a game development team (called the "Team Who Must Not Be Named") made up entirely of young women. It’s a nail-biting suspense thriller where the only way to find breaks in the case is to get up close and personal with everyone in town.

Striking a delightful balance between humor and horror (think Nancy Drew meets Shaun of the Dead), Interfectorem will keep your attention from beginning to end!

Will you be able to solve the case and save yourself before it's too late?!

This game won Grand Prize at the 2nd annual Girls Make Games Demo Day hosted at the Computer History Museum in Mountain View, California on July 19th, 2015.

After 3 weeks of hard work, 5 teams of young game developers hand-selected from the 36 teams from GMG camps across the country, pitched their game prototypes to the following industry veterans:

The gameplay you'll see here was created as a demo from the prototype the team made during their time at Girls Make Games 2015.

This Kickstarter will let the girls continue to work on the game, hire professional artists, musicians, and programmers, and publish a very pretty and complete version of their vision.

This game will be funded through this Kickstarter campaign, developed at LearnDistrict and published + featured on the Google Play store! The game is also Kickstarted for Pc/Mac/Linux.

Check out the 2014 GMG Grand Prize Winner, "The Hole Story", on Steam!

Note: After accounting for game development, publishing costs, and Kickstarter fullfillment, profit from game sales will go directly to the team.

 Student Bios

"The Team Who Must Not Be Named" is made up of four middle school age girls (ages 10-14) who participated in a 2015 Girls Make Camp in San Francisco, CA.

Hi, my name is Avalon Brevik. I'm 12 and on summer vacation, yaay no school! My parents have played games for as long as I remember, so of course I ended up loving video games. The two current games I am playing are Animal Jam and Lego Marvel Superheroes.

Hi! My name is Izzy Penston and I'm 14 years old and in 9th grade. I designed the characters (they're like my children tbh), did concept art, helped with the story, worked on the music, put all the dumb jokes in the dialogue, and coded a little. I really like visual novels like Heavy Rain but I also like RPGs like Splatoon and Pokemon. I signed up for GMG because I'm a huge nerd and I thought it'd be cool to make a game. And it is!!!

I'm Lucia Plymale and I'm 13 years old. I was born in San Francisco, California. I have been playing games since I first played the game minecraft when I was 7 or 8. I have two dogs and a cat. I wrote some of the story and did some coding. At girls make games, I learned how fun it is to make games.

My name is Summer, I am ten and going into fifth grade. My favorite video game is Minecraft. I like Minecraft because I like building and being creative. Before I had came to GMG, I had started an online java modding class with my dad. My favorite part of making Interfectorem was when at the end, it all came together and it looked like a real game.

Girls Make Games is a series of international summer camps, workshops and game jams designed to encourage girls to explore the world of video games. With the help of a growing list of partners like Google Play, DoubleFine, and the Computer History Museum, we're determined to address the gender gap in the games industry, one camp at a time.

Why Your Support is Important

Emily's story is not unique. From being stereotyped to being ignored, it's hard work trying to combat the hostility that women - especially young women - face in video game communities these days.

One of the reasons we started Girls Make Games was to give burgeoning young developers in the face of these sometimes discouraging experiences the confidence and experience they'll need to pursue careers in video games or technology.

The more support we can get for programs like Girls Make Games, the more confident young women will feel about becoming developers - knowing that others like them are getting the recognition, encouragement, and support they need.

Let's be Friends!

The girls and team would be very thankful if you could help spread the news about this game development project on Twitter, Tumblr, Facebook, Instagram, or whichever social media network you prefer. Please feel free to leave a comment on this Kickstarter, or follow us on Facebook or Twitter or Instagram!!! We would love your feedback.

Next Year and BEYOND

In 2015 GMG was in 28 different cities and reached over 700 girls and we aim to reach 1 million by the year 2020. Help us see our vision of a more diverse video games industry come true by making the industry a safer place for expression and encouraging girls to follow their passions.

Who We Are

We are LearnDistrict, an indie studio based in San Jose, CA. We are committed to providing students with access to knowledge through our games and programs like Girls Make Games.

Risks and challenges

The biggest risk with this project is timeline. We're running camps and developing our studio's own games alongside which puts us in a time bind. With the Kickstarter's assistance we'll be able to hire help to get the games out on time.
