Sexy Sandwich Productions Presents...
Sang is an original work by Violet Bast, and will be performed on October 20, 27, and 31 at 8:30 pm, with a 10:00 pm masquerade ball DJ'd by Mouse, Calvin Riley, and DJ-Nine, following each show. This is the second piece by Sexy Sandwich, an up and coming Santa Barbara-based theatre company dedicated to the sharing of new, fun, and challenging stories.
Sang is a noirish gothic horror play that reinvents classical figures and gives them a new voice for today's audience. In it, the widowed poet, Orfeas, raises his wife, Evridiki, from the dead. She returns as a vampire, bent on taking vengeance for her own death, and the many other victims taken by the man responsible for her demise. As innocent bodies start racking up in the wake of Evridiki's fury, Medea, an old friend of Orfeas' with a checkered past, tries to put an end to the carnage while enduring the bigotry of the people she's trying to rescue. Fire spinning, dancing, choreographed fight scenes, glorious costumes, DJs, live music, and a masquerade, will make Sang the must see event of the season. Sang deals with mature subject matter and guests must be 21 years of age or older to attend the 10/20 and 10/27 shows. The 10/31 showing of Sang will be open to guests 18 and up.
What we need:
Sang will be performed at the Garden Street Warehouse, a lot that has birthed many large scale art projects, including The Walkabout Woods and the 2012 Summer Solstice Parade. Sang may be one of the last projects to come to fruition there before the space undergoes major construction, changing the way things are done at that historic site forever. Despite the site's grand history, it has never been used as a performance space, and will need to be outfitted to suit the production's needs.
Sang will need to raise $4,000- this will go toward
-Building a stage
-Lighting equipment and engineering
-Sound equipment and engineering
-Artful props and sets
-Special effects makeup
-Fuel for fire dancers and fire effects
Why your pledges matter:
Your pledges confirm audience demand for innovative theatrical art
in Santa Barbara. By purchasing advanced tickets, memorabilia and VIP
perks, you are directly financing our production. Sexy Sandwich is a non-profit organization with volunteer actors and producers. We're doing this out of our love for theater and your contributions will help bring that love to life in this amazing new show.
Risks and challenges
Sang will be performed in a space that has never been used as a performance venue, that will need to largely be refurbished.Like all theatrical productions we face risks of bad weather, injuries to or loss of actors, and technical glitches. Some of our cast and crew are first time theatre participants, and for others this is the first project of this magnitude that we have attempted. However, our core team has significant theatrical experience and we have brought in true professionals to help with lighting, choreography, music, costumes, and sound, all of whom are either volunteering or working at a significant discount to support our project directly. We're all approaching our tasks zealously, taking lessons from the more seasoned members of our community, and turning each stumble into a source of triumph as we make our way toward our goal.Learn about accountability on Kickstarter
