Many roleplaying game systems excel at letting Game Masters tell familiar stories in existing settings. But what about GMs who want to create their own worlds? To tell their own stories? That's where we come in.
What is Solipstry?
Solipstry is a universe-independent roleplaying game that provides all the tools you need to tell your own stories your own way.
Solipstry doesn't come with existing maps or history. That means it's ripe for you to create your own worlds and settings, without cumbersome backstory already existing. Solipstry is made to help you tell your stories, not someone else's.
Specifically, Solipstry emphasizes three things:
1. Simple mechanics. This makes our system easy for new players to pick up and learn, and easy for GMs to modify anything to fit their needs.
2. Minimal dice rolling. While it is satisfying to roll a truckload of dice, we favor simplicity and speed over tracking down and adding every result.
3. One book. Everything you need to play is in the core rulebook. Guidelines for creating monsters, settings, and more all exist within.
Things we don't have:
- Clunky experience
- Restrictive classes
- Pages of lore
- Excessive dice rolls
Things we do have:
- Intuitive leveling
- Flexible rules
- Powerful luck mechanics
- Occasional humor
Our mechanics are simple. We've replaced the burden of XP with our intuitive Tally System.
If you succeed in a skill, you get a tally in that skill. The better you are at any given skill, the more tallies you need to improve in that skill. Once you improve in ten skills, you level up. It really is that easy!
We also introduce Fortune Points, a tangible representation of your character's luck that allows you to manipulate the fabric of the world around you.
Mechanically, Solipstry is skill-based (rather than class-based), which means that any set of skills and specializations can define your character. If you want to be proficient in a skill that we didn't account for, it's simple to add it in.
We've spent a lot of time making our book easy to read, both aesthetically and linguistically. Much of the book is littered with full-color art. Below is a sample from our Character Creation section:
Solipstry is a great place for new players to start. Our rules are easy to learn, even for first time players. We also provide enough options that veteran players will be satisfied--this isn't a "dumbed-down" system, it's just simplified.
And, if anything isn't to your liking, change it! Solipstry is a more of a guidebook than a rulebook. That said, our rules are fully fleshed out. Our combat section is 10 pages long. Big enough to cover flanking, grappling, and initative, but light enough that we neglect to mention how your attacks are affected by the phase of the moon or the direction of the wind. Solipstry is crunchy enough to be clear, and no crunchier.

The Chronicle will not be released as a physical book, only as a PDF.
The Chronicle is not necessary to play Solipstry. Everything you need is contained in the core rulebook. But what is the Chronicle?
A collection of monsters and lore. A lost journal of a well-traveled adventurer? Pages from an encyclopedia of local wildlife? How you fit it into your campaign is up to you (we're big on that!). What it provides is more than 30 monsters, complete with illustrations and interactions. You can use the quotes and history provided to kickstart an adventure, or just drop the monsters in with their pre-made stats.
As with all things Solipstry, you can modify these monsters' stats (if you want a beetle to breathe fire, it's a minor change). Below is a two-page spread representing one monster. You can see both the tentative layout and design of the Chronicle, along with how our monsters look.
Want to make your own monster?
With the Monster Mash tier, you can team up with our Monster Creators (did you know you can just make up job titles?) to bring any* being from your imagination to life. We'll work with you to create a page similar to the one you see above, complete with illustration, story, and stats. Your creation will be a part of the Chronicle when it is released.
*Some restrictions apply. While the creature can be from any genre, we prefer it be an original idea (though anything that isn't infringing on copyright will work). All submissions are subject to our approval.
Initiative Cards (UNLOCKED)
All backers who have a physical order ($25 and higher) will receive a set of 10 Initiative cards at no charge. These cards will be roughly playing-card sized and laminated, allowing the GM to easily track initiative and status conditions for player characters and monsters alike.
While the design has not been finalized, below is a rough sketch of what they may look like:
Risks and challenges
The book is already written. This funds from this Kickstarter are used to publish the book, not to write it.
We have worked with this publisher in the past to produce preliminary hardcover copies of Solipstry. We are confident in their ability to meet our order within the timeline provided.
Since the book is done, we plan to deliver the PDF as soon as the Kickstarter ends.
For the Chronicle, we will be able to deliver it as soon as we have all the necessary information. Once the Kickstarter ends, we will contact any backers at the Monster Mash tier to flesh out their monsters and complete the Chronicle.
We will try to minimize any delays in this process, and communicate any that we cannot mitigate.
