Lab-Box - June Production Update

Posted by ars-imago (Creator)

Dear Backers,

The mould production continues and we are following every step of the process to make sure it goes smoothly. This is a slightly long but very important phase, which is going to last a few more weeks: the moulds will be ready in August and we will confirm it in the July update. In the meantime, we are ordering plastic materials (ABS, Nylon) and metal parts (Stainless Steel 304 and 316) in advance to optimise our time.

Professional lid:
meanwhile, final adjustments for the Professional Lid are moving forward and we are currently defining touch keys, firmware details, and testing out functionalities such as thermometer and timer. Besides the manual setting of the timer, using T1 T2 T3 functions, you will be able to memorise up to three different processing times and easily set them during developing, stopping, and fixing. The measuring probe is very precise and the digital sensor has finally been approved and finalised with the collaboration of Texas Instruments.

we have finally found a rotary seal that was able to endure all our stress tests and that we have customised, as you can see in the following picture. From a standard rubber we have moved to a higher-performing and costlier material (FKM/Viton) though guaranteeing better results.

Accessory update: as you know, one of our stretch goals was the washing funnel: an extra accessory to ease the final washing of film. After running accurate tests, we have ultimately decided not to produce this accessory and relocate our efforts into a new and more effective product for washing. To apologise for this unforeseen issue, we have decided to deliver an easy-to-use and useful Film Retriever for 35mm film to all our Backers and free of charge.

Logistics and deadlines:
as the work on packaging designing progresses, we are starting to sort out logistics and shipping arrangements:
you have time until July 31st to update your shipping address (on your Kickstarter account) and to add products to your pledge via our website:

Anyway you will receive a reminder in the next weeks.

Thank yout for the Update. I cannot change the delivery address in my Kickstart account. There is no possibility to register there. Is there another way to change the delivery address?

Thanks for the update, guys! Can't wait for the final product.

      Yes you are right.

      @ Ars imago.
Visto che si avvicina il momento delle spedizioni avete sciolto il riservo sui rimborsi? Avevate detto che avreste fatto sapere se eravate in grado di rimborsare chi lo richiedeva, io vorrei ancora optare per quella possibilità.

Not to be a negative person, but the film retriever was promised in the original campaign. And now you are tooting it as a bonus for not satisfying your stretch goals.

Thanks for the update. I am having trouble updating my address details through kickstarter, can these details be sent to Lab Box direct via email.

Thanks for the update. It’s getting to the really exciting part for us soon!
Also, I’m trying to update my address via Kickstarter and I’m having trouble doing so.
Might I suggest you send out a survey to make it easier for us all?

I'm wondering what the "new and more effective product for washing" will be?
And hopefully it als will be included for all backers.

Keep on your good work. I can't hardly wait for the LAB.

Sounds good. Keep on the good work, and we will wait patiently :-)

Just one question, what do you have in mind as a substitute for the funnel for film washing?

    10. Marcelo Canut de Bon on

Thanks for the update, guys. Glad you are working out the imperfections BEFORE it is delivered and I do understand these things take time. Keep up the good work.

Bravo! The funnel is hardly a deal breaker! Thanks for the update.

    12. Federico Tixi on

I ordered the tank because it looked like a good way to clean the film with the funnel, and now i'm dealing with another useless film retriever. bummer.

    13. Brendan Piper on

Sounds like a good call on the funnel, it's a bummer but definitely not worth compromising the quality of the tank for.

    14. Michael Diblicek on

      Thanks for the update guys.

It all sounds great, keep going.

      All the best

I film retriever? Really? You know how many of those I have lying around? Ugh.

I'm glad you're working to make the product perfect. My complaint is that you have provided an accessory for those who use 35mm film. I think you ought to do something for anyone who ordered the 120 film box, even if they ordered both. I don't shoot 35mm so the accessory does nothing for me.

    17. Jess Dempsey

Thanks for the film retriever! I’m glad you’re working through issues and look forward to what happens with the washing product
