"The experience is magical. It reminds you why you fell in love with theatre in the first place." - Kevin Spacey
"Fear on steroids." - Naomi Watts
"Loving community created in less than a day, EVERY TIME." - Kristoffer Diaz
Inspired by Scott McCloud's 24 Hour Comics, creator Tina Fallon intended The 24 Hour Plays® to be a one-time-only event when it debuted on Manhattan's Lower East Side in 1995. Twenty years and thousands of plays and musicals later, The 24 Hour Company continues to bring together extraordinary artists to create time-limited theater around the world. Regular events include The 24 Hour Plays on Broadway and The 24 Hour Musicals, as well as productions in London, Los Angeles, Dublin, Athens, Florence, Finland, Greece, Germany and more. Their work has galvanized creative communities and inspired audiences around the world, raising millions of dollars for charity along the way.
Each summer, The 24 Hour Company partners with the New School for Drama to bring together the best actors, directors, playwrights and producers 25 and under for an intensive professional experience in The 24 Hour Plays®: Nationals. Licensed affiliates have produced their own versions of The 24 Hour Plays® in regional and professional theaters, colleges, and universities just about everywhere you can find a curtain and a stage.
Through The 24 Hour Plays: Nationals, we build a community of young theater professionals each year and arm them with what they need to find their way in the theater business—each other. Over a four-day period, exemplary artists 25 and under participate in industry workshops and produce their own production of The 24 Hour Plays in New York City, launching the relationships that will sustain them through their careers.
By making a tax deductible donation to our Kickstarter campaign, you can ensure that The 24 Hour Plays: Nationals will continue to develop the future voices of the American theater through a rigorous (and free!) professional development experience. And you'll get some cool stuff too!
Risks and challenges
Through our partnership with The New School for Drama, we have the
benefit of time and space for the program. We also have a large network of alumni and professional colleagues who refer new young people to us. Through The 24 Hour Plays on Broadway and The 24 Hour Musicals, we connect with top professionals who generously visit with your young artists. The greatest risk we face is continuing to generate operating support to maintain and grow our infrastructure to support this process year after year. We greatly appreciate your help in making that a non-issue for us this year!
