B is a unique remote controlled hybrid car-quadcopter ( carcopter) with a patented design. On flat surfaces B can reach high speeds using its rear wheel drive. Due to its large wheel diameter it achieves outstanding performance in driving across difficult terrain. When the obstacles become too big, it can simply take-off and fly over them.
Steel guards were implemented recently, for extra wheel protection.
Wheel despite being large in diameter, they are very light as there is no middle hub. They provide extra protection to the propellers and motors inside. They are made of POM/Derlin therefore once B crash-lands they are flexible enough to withstand the pressure before they can break. The wheels pop off and can easily be put back together. Additional there are still guards in area where propeller crosses the wheel housing, to give extra protection in case if you forget to push the throttle down. B only requires 5 channel 2.4 GHz transmitter to operate. It comes with fly/drive board, therefore you can implement any Flight Controller. We also developed a code for MultiWii board and working on CC3D at the moment. This means that update the firmware and eliminate the fly/drive board.

15 min of fun on single charge (combined performance) 11-12 min flying, 20 min driving. It was a task to make B flying for the sensible period of time as it has to carry the "driving gear" also considering relatively small propeller ( 7 inch). It flies for solid 11 min. The thrust to mass ratio is about 2.1-2.2 , therefore agile flying or extra payload for more professional than on board camera is possible to implement into the design...
Watch flight endurance test:
B version V1 has been already manufactured , all initial errors are corrected. You can get the model within 2 months after campaign ends. If you want to get version V2 ( 4x4 + suspension) we will start the shipment in May 2015. So if you are inpatient you can get B V1 play with it, get some fun and later on implement 4x4 + suspension gear. I have created extra pledge for that.
B needs your help in order to take B V1 to another level, as all available funds from previous campaign went into improving it. Now is the time to polish this design and stretch the performance to maximum. Funds will go towards:
- Implement suspension
- Implement 4x4 /4WD drive system
- Manufacture new tires
- Patent maintenance
- Implement removable wheels, so you can easily convert your flying car into standard quadcopter.
- Research and development work around the 1:1 scale single wheel with coaxial variable pitch propellers. Only from 2 USD pledge, other funds will not be affected by this work.
The 4WD system is composed of a driving motor powering the timing belt MXL, that inputs the power to the rear shaft. This also transfer power to the front shaft via another timing belt inside middle tube. The middle tube has been updated to thicker walls in order to increase the strength. B is designed in such a way that the middle tube acts as mechanical fuse. The tube is one of the cheapest elements in design ( 3 USD) , replacing it is not costly.

Despite the arms moving up or down. The flying motors always stay parallel. The thrust force vectors do not change direction. Consequently do not affect the flight stability. More over, vibrations coming from motors and propellers will be absorbed by suspension. This result in much stable flight and camera picture.
Wheels can be easily removed and you can convert your flying car to standard quadcopter, in order to increase endurance or to gain extra payload for your Go Pro Camera.
All above updates will only increase mass of B by about 88 g /3.1 oz
Arms : no mass difference, they will be made of light Duraluminium
Shock absorb x 4: 24 g /0.846 oz total
Coaster block x 4 : 12 g /0.42 oz Belts + Pulleys + prop shaft: 20 g /0.71 oz ( MLX belts are very light)
New stronger alloy tube: 12 g/0.42 oz or the second one ( also 12 g)
Wider wheels + fully enclosed housings: 20 g /0.71 oz
Therefore there is no significant difference in flight endurance
"I am a dreamer and I hope I am not the only one .." I dream to see B in 1:1 scale in future looking similar to the picture above. Obliviously the wheel size would be reduced by half once coaxial set up is used. There is no technical obstacles to build this car in a full scale, only funds missing. Risks and challenges
By completing the successful campaign before. We have experience with, mass production, quality control, logistics, handling, certification etc. There is no risk of not getting the model as version 1 it has been already manufactured and it will be shipped to EU straight after the end of campaign. We need your help to move one step froward and take B to another level.
