About this project
NOVEL SUPPLY CO. is about to create it's first collection and we want you to be a part of making it happen.
WHAT IS NOVEL?
We are a small, locally-inspired conscious apparel company based in Vancouver, BC.
Our apparel is designed with the West Coast lifestyle in mind. We love weekend adventures to cozy cabins, exploring the local mountains, bike crawls, craft brew, seawall strolls, street art and hunting for the best cup of joe in the city.
We care about this place we call home and want to leave it in better shape than we found it for future generations to come. That's why we make the most conscious choices when it comes to fabric, inks, thread, packaging and shipping.
DESIGN3D | with the end in mind
NOVEL apparel is designed with the end in mind. It is our goal to keep NOVEL gear out of landfills by using natural, biodegradable and non-toxic elements in our design, as well as providing alternatives to "throwing out" and redefining the value of clothing.
Hemp and organic cotton #forthewin! Hemp is strong, breathable, renewable, and requires much less water than cotton to grow. It also grows without herbicides and pesticides and thrives in various climates and environments. As a fabric, it has the ability to screen ultra-violet rays and is mildew-resistant. When blended with organic cotton, it makes an extremely soft but durable fabric that leaves much less of an impact on people and the planet than conventional cotton or other synthetic fabrics.
The tank and tee are made from lightweight 30% hemp and 70% organic cotton jersey and is 100% natural fabric that will biodegrade at the end of its life.
THE MUSCLE TANK
Felix (left - size M) | height - 6'0, weight 170lbs, chest - 35", waist - 33.8"
Kaya (right - size S) | height - 5'3, weight - 140lbs, chest - 34", waist - 32"
THE ADVENTURE TEE
Felix (left - size M) | height - 6'0, weight 170lbs, chest - 35", waist - 33.8"
Christina (right - size S) | height - 5'4, weight - 120lbs, chest - 29", waist - 27.5"
The crewneck sweatshirt is made from 55% hemp and 45% organic cotton fleece. The ribbing currently has 5% lycra in it for added stretch and shape retention. Our goal is to push our fabric suppliers to produce a 100% natural fabric to use for the ribbing in our crews so that they are fully biodegradable.
THE CABIN CREW
Felix (left - size M) | height - 6'0", weight - 170lbs, chest - 35", waist - 33.8"
Jordan (right - size S) | height - 5'2", weight - 135lbs, chest - 34.4", waist - 30.5"
These garments have been pre-washed but there will still be some shrinkage, like with any natural fabric, so sizes have been adjusted to accommodate for that. What does this mean for you? The sizes are slightly larger and will shrink slightly after the first wash. Sizes may vary by .5" - 1" in length or width due to the variability of natural fibres.
All fabric is sourced from the US and is milled in China, as there are very few fabric suppliers or mills in Canada. The factory in China is a member of Fair Wear Foundation and follows labour standards laid out in the Code of Labour Practices.
Our postcards are a perfect 4X6 and can be framed as desk or wall art. They are printed on 100% recycled paper with veggie-based and VOC-free inks.
Our 12X12 record-sized prints look fab on any wall. They are printed on 100% recycled paper with veggie-based and VOC-free inks.
(from left to right top: gondola, full logo black, bear)
(from left to right bottom: bike, full logo white)
*frame not included.
Not only do I love their witty name, but the guys over at Pressing Matters are some of the best printers in town. They make sure the prints on my shirts look slick and the inks used for screen printing are PVC-free and phthalate-free. They also don't contain any heavy metals or other harmful materials. They have been tested by independent labs and certified as meeting Oeko-Tex standards.
Every few months, we team up with local artists to design new graphics for our apparel. If you want to be the next NOVEL artist, post your art on Instagram with the hashtag #NovelSupplyDesign and shoot us an e-mail at email@example.com. We can't wait to see what you create.
100% organic cotton. Enough said.
Our apparel is undyed and natural in colour. That means no water or toxic chemicals are used to dye our fabric.
Handcrafted at our manufacturing facility in Vancouver, BC.
All packaging is recycled and/or recyclable. Don't forget to reuse it then recycle it.
SIGIL AND GROWLER
If anyone has found their niche, it's these guys. They make custom engraved growlers locally in Vancouver. They are a bunch of rad young entrepreneurs and I am stoked to be collaborating with them to produce our very first run of NOVEL printed growler in 32oz and 64oz sizes.
This collaboration was a #nobrainer. NOVEL + Norquay go together like peanut butter and jelly. We can't get enough of the outdoors and we love sharing our adventures with anyone who will listen.
This collab has resulted in a custom artisan paddle design in two colourways. This design is an exclusive NOVEL + Norquay design and won't be sold anywhere else. Get yours while limited quantities last.
VALUES WE LIVE BY | circular
COLLABORATION | collaborating is our jam. We love to hook up with other rad entrepreneurs, artists, and go-getters to learn, create and build off one another. Contact us at firstname.lastname@example.org if you want to collab.
INTEGRITY | we stay true to our word. Simple as that.
RADICAL TRANSPARENCY | we want to disrupt the industry by making transparency the new norm and encouraging others to follow suit.
CREATIVITY | we continuously stoke the fire of creativity by co-working, networking, and brainstorming with other creatives.
URBAN LIFESTYLE | we live the urban lifestyle within our footprint. We eat local, bike where possible and support local art.
LOCAL | we partner with the badass-talented artists of Vancity and our gear is made in Vancouver.
ADVENTURE ALWAYS | we never say no to adventure.
RESPECT | we respect all members of society and treat everyone and their dog equally.
WHERE DID THE IDEA COME FROM?
My name is Kaya Dorey and I am the Creator of NOVEL SUPPLY CO.
The turning point for me was learning about when you blend synthetic and natural fabrics, they become non-biodegradable and non-recyclable. I thought to myself, why the heck are we creating clothing that doesn't break down and WHY are we making it out of chemicals and petroleum-based products when we wear it EVERY DAY (that's right nylon and polyester, I am talking to you)!
So, I went on a hunt to find clothing that was made from natural fabrics from brands that cared about the mark they left on the planet. I found myself wandering into stores that say "eco-friendly", "made locally" and "fair trade" but I could never find anything that suited my style.
I love comfortable basics, rad prints, minimalist design, relaxed fits, natural fabrics and non-toxic everything, which didn't exist in Vancouver. So, I decided to venture out on my own and create it myself. That's where the novel idea came from and, naturally, how I chose the name.
