My Project is to Get My Artwork and Myself to the 36th Annual Philadelphia Museum of Art Craft Show, November 8 - 12, 2012.
The PMA Craft Show is one of the most prestigious high-end shows for Contemporary Craft artisans. It's very competitive, with approximately 200 exhibitors in all, and only about ten spots of those in my category of Decorative Fiber. I feel really, really fortunate to have been accepted again!
Some Background for You:
I exhibited as an emerging artist at the PMA show for four years in a row (2006 - 2009) until the economy and my personal finances caused me to decide to take a step back from these shows for a little while since they are so very expensive.
Since then, to market my art I've worked with Art Consultants and have been lucky to have had a couple private and corporate Commissions. I've also been trying to get Gallery Representation, but while most gallery owners think my work is truly compelling, the economy of the past two/three years has caused some of these galleries to cut back (or even stop completely) on representing many new artists.
In order to get my artwork out again to a serious audience of people who appreciate fine, contemporary art, I need to get my artwork and myself to Philly! ... and I need YOUR help and support to reach my goal.
The photo below shows my honey, Jim, and I building my first ever Display Booth. Basically, you have to design and build your space. Then you gotta pack it all up and truck it down along with all your art, the packing materials, your floor, the lighting, PLUS all the tools, ladders, props..
Then you have to re-assemble all of it, touch it up, hang the lights, get your work hung just right....
And don't forget something nice to wear! WHEW -- the list goes on and on and on! It's a ton of work, but lots of fun! In the end, it's all worthwhile to have so many people see and appreciate my art at a show like this. It's truly an honor.
Your generous support as a Backer will help me pay for these expenses:
$1200 - for the 10' x 10' booth fee (deadline for payment July, 1 !!!)
$600 - cost for rental van and estimated gasoline expenses (who knows what gas will cost in November?
$250 - for electricity and phone line in the booth during the show
$200 - for booth upgrades
$250 - for postcards and postage to promote the show
$500 - for just some of the art supplies / framing materials needed to get the new body of work ready to hang!
