A satirical, unique television viewing experience mocking local news and the increasing emphasis of advertising over actual programming
The New News Now @ Noon is a graduate thesis film from Savannah College of Art and Design students Michael Warshauer, Adam Tuckey, Danielle Aziz and Alex Harris. The project is a local news satire centered around a show of the same name hosted by vapid, plastic anchors Brian Lance and Belinda Deveraux-Maclintoch. Joined by on-scene reporter Beth Ruth and weatherman Chain Lefebvre, the news team is dedicated to being on air everyday at noon, regardless of content. As the broadcast rolls on, it’s peppered with increasingly bizarre advertisements for equally weird products. These commercials include takes on ads for beer (Oden Light and their "Man Refs"), pharmaceutical companies (Freeblesstrux, the all-in-one cure for anxiety, depression, ADD, and diabetes), and jewelry stores (Jerrick, specializing in male "accessorization").
With the studio news segments already filmed, we're raising funds to complete the commercial portion of the film, which will shoot over eight days in August. Money will go towards sets, props, costumes, meals for the crew, and various other production costs. Filming takes place entirely in the vicinity of Savannah, GA. The finished product will be screened in Savannah in November before heading to festivals.
