Unbelievably we hit the funding target on day 1! I wasn't much of a boy scout, but I am prepared... Thank you so much for the support you've shown. The remainder of the campaign is all about making the rewards even better...

In Trouble is a 24 page, black and white, single issue comic book that tells a story about pregnancy and the end of the world. Blue Skelton is taking a pregnancy test at the same moment a news flash announces that an asteroid will strike the Earth... Spoiler: This is pretty much how the issue ends, but this book is about a lot more than the situation.
The focus is on the characters. This is very much a 'slice-of-life book, with the sci-fi element casting a shadow that puts everyday situations and choices into stark relief. It's a story about people, relationships, life choices and the unique experience of making a new person.
Purpose of this Kickstarter: The aim of this campaign is to fund a print run. I've purposely chosen a short duration because I'm using the platform as an exclusive pre-order system. All rewards will be fulfilled before Thought Bubble at the end of September so I can sell the book there in person. I've had success using Kickstarter in the past and I wanted to make sure the supporters I've gained in this community have the first chance to get the book.
Future of the project: This story will be told over 5 issues and it's a solo effort on my part. I'm writing, drawing and lettering. Full disclosure, there will be a delay between issues, but I'm working hard to make each issue tell a satisfying story that still fits well within the overarching narrative.

Rewards: I always try to produce rewards that will give added value to backers, without the costs inflating the target to an extent that the main point of the campaign is lost.
Thought Bubble Collection: As I will be exhibiting at Thought Bubble (Leeds, September 23-24), you can sidestep the postage costs, wait a few weeks and pick up your rewards from me in person. There is a basic book pledge tier for this, but if you'd like a different reward and wish to collect, get in touch and we'll figure it out.
Digital Back Catalogue: If you're unfamiliar with my work this is a chance for you to catch up (digitally) with everything I've self-published in the last 2 years. This includes 3 issues of Cognition, a supernatural adventure comic, a trade collection (140 pages) of experimental comics called Sliced Quarterly, and of course, In Trouble #1, my latest offering.
Limited Kickstarter Bookplate: A numbered run of 25 bookplates, specific to this Kickstarter Campaign. Each one will be signed by with a sketch by Ken.
Comichaus App Trial Subscription: Here's the pitch... It's like Netflix for indie comics. You get to try and discover a load of great indie comics for the cost of a single issue per month. This reward will get you a 3 month trial subscription and a chance to dive into the world of independently published comics, a vibrant scene that pushing the comic book medium into some very exciting places. Upon launch my personal back catalogue of titles will be available to read. For more information you can check out the page of their successful kickstarter campaign. The app is due to launch late September.
Nesting Doll Art Commission: An A5 pencil and ink sketch commission of 3 nesting dolls. You will be characterised as the biggest doll and you get to chose what should be illustrated on the other two to symbolise what is inside you.
Editorial Assessment: Ken will read and provide written overview feedback, on your single issue comic book script or 2 short story scripts. Notes can include plot, pacing, imagery and dialogue. Basically, if you'd like a second pair of eyes to vet your work before making an investment in art this might be for you. This offer is for a single pass review with no further revisions considered.
“I’ve been lucky enough to receive feedback from Ken on a couple of scripts, and on each occasion his insight into how to improve the flow of the story and into how to distill what I’m trying to say in the story (even when I’m unsure myself) has been invaluable.” - Martin Feekins ('The Mighty Mykflex' and 'Meat' 2000AD Future Shocks)
"Ken has acted as Assistant Editor for 100% Biodegradable for almost two years. His insightful feedback on the submissions sent our way has turned many a potential rejection into an acceptance; he has a gift for salvaging scripts, and putting a new spin on old ideas. And thank goodness for his lettering skills! Without them, I'd have to letter everything with my crayons, and nobody wants that." - David Hailwood (Editor, 100% Biodegradable)
Lettering Services: Ken will letter your comic short story. This price when combined with the book works out to a steep reduction on his regular page rate. You can see samples of his work here - kenreynoldsdesign.deviantart.com/gallery
"I’ve worked with Ken on a number of self-published and published projects, and on each, his lettering and design has added a whole new dimension to the stories. His approach is insightful, professional and honest, which makes him a pleasure to work with." - Chris Sides (Markosia, Alterna Comics, Sliced Quarterly, 100% Biodegradable)
Rewards Tiers: *All prices exclude postage costs*
Risks and challenges
The risks are minimal. The book is ready to go to print... All that needs adding are the names on the 'thank you' list. All rewards and Kickstarter exclusives will go into production as soon as the funds are available.
I hope to be able to fulfill all rewards within 4 weeks after the completion of a successful campaign. I have geared all the work involved in creating and delivering the rewards towards the skill-set, experience and contacts I have gained through working in the design industry for over 10 years.
If there are any unforeseen problems, I will be transparent and upfront about it, while keeping all backers updated as I solve them.
With the experience gained from my previous campaigns, I feel totally confident that I’ll be able to deliver on all of the promises set out above.Learn about accountability on Kickstarter
