Cognition #2 is a 22 page, black & white, single issue comic that follows the exploits of a steam-powered automaton inhabited by a human spirit called Cal and a demonically possessed mouse named Sigma. They battle spirits, monsters and folkloric nasties for the British Occult Secret Service (BOSS) during the ‘Golden Age’ of the Victorian era.
Issue #2 is our second long form COGNITION story and begins the meat of our first story arc in earnest. The BOSS team are visiting Norfolk in search of the legendary demon dog know locally as 'Black Shuck'. What they find will propel them into an adventure into myth and occult powers beyond their understanding.
The aim of the campaign is to fund the print run of issue #2. This time around the target is a little higher, as I anticipate that we may have to re-print issues #0 & #1 to fulfill the rewards. I've also decided to give the campaign a slightly shorter duration becasue I'd like to get everything fulfilled and out to you before my next Convention appearance, enabling me to offer the book there as well. I have a strict policy of making sure you guys are served first!
Cover & 3 page preview of issue #2:
240x157mm Page size. 36-40 page comic (depending on stretch goal achievements), 4 full colour pages (cover), 170GSM Silk paper stock. 30-36 black and white pages (inside), 130GSM Silk paper stock. Saddle stitched binding.
After the wonderful reaction of the set of pin-ups I have commissioned for the previous campaigns, I have once again sourced a set of unique interpretations of the Cognition characters by hugely talented comic artists. There is work from: Darrell Forpe (Sub Diablo), Paul Moore (Planet of Daemons), Alfie Gallagher (EIR), Matt Strott (Late Knights), S.J. McCune (Monologue) and one other that will be announced during the campaign.
This artwork will feature in the book itself as a pin-up gallery and form parts of the rewards and stretch goals.
I've always try to produce rewards that will give added value to backers, without the cost of those rewards inflating the target to an extent that the main point of the campaign is lost. That being the print run.
Digital 'Talking Pin-Ups' - Choose one of our character pin-ups and suggest a topic, theme, occasion or idea. Ken will write the dialogue and letter it for you before sending a high res, A6 file for you to print and proliferate as you wish.

Limited Kickstarter Bookplate - A numbered run of 50 bookplates, specific to this Kickstarter Campaign. Each one will be signed by Ken, and signed with a sketch by Sam.
Postcard Set - A set of 7 artcards, 148x105mm, thick stock, coated front for the artwork, with a matte finish on the back.
Editorial Assessment - Ken will read and provide written overview feedback, on your single issue comic book script or 2 short story scripts. Notes can include plot, pacing, imagery and dialogue. Basically, if you'd like a second pair of eyes to vet your work before making an investment in art this might be for you. This offer is for a single pass review with no further revisions considered.
"Ken has edited several of my stories. I find him open and encouraging to new ideas, able instantly too grasp the spirit of any given script. Also each suggestion he makes for a cut in a script is uncomplicated yet perfect. Simply put everything he has edited for me has made the final script better." - David Thomas (Dirty Rotten Comics, Futurequake, Sliced Quarterly)
I have been giving Ken stories for over a year now, and I can safely say he has been essential to improving as a writer. Ken's style of editing observes you and offers you questions and advice that aren't meant to be taken as an absolute, but instead cooks in your mind. He truly is a Professional-Amateur comic maker." - Kyle Houston (Sliced Quarterly)
“I’ve been lucky enough to receive feedback from Ken on a couple of scripts, and on each occasion his insight into how to improve the flow of the story and into how to distill what I’m trying to say in the story (even when I’m unsure myself) has been invaluable.” - Martin Feekins ('The Mighty Mykflex' and 'Meat' 2000AD Future Shocks)
"Ken has acted as Assistant Editor for 100% Biodegradable for almost two years. His insightful feedback on the submissions sent our way has turned many a potential rejection into an acceptance; he has a gift for salvaging scripts, and putting a new spin on old ideas. And thank goodness for his lettering skills! Without them, I'd have to letter everything with my crayons, and nobody wants that." - David Hailwood (Editor, 100% Biodegradable)
Lettering Services - Ken will letter your comic short story or full issue. This deal along works out to a steep reduction on his regular page rate. You can see samples of his work here - http://kenreynoldsdesign.deviantart.com/gallery/
"I’ve worked with Ken on a number of self-published and published projects, and on each, his lettering and design has added a whole new dimension to the stories. His approach is insightful, professional and honest, which makes him a pleasure to work with.’ - Chris Sides(Markosia, Alterna Comics, Sliced Quarterly, 100% Biodegradable)
Digital Character Art Commission - Sam Bentley, the series artist, is offering digital character sketch commissions. We are trailing this method of delivering art commissions via Kickstarter, as it will be low risk for delivery while we believe we have found a method to retain the unique value of each piece.
The backer will get to choose the subject of their commission, the piece will then be created digitally. It will be delivered as a high resolution file for the backer to reproduce how they wish.
However, to maintain each piece as a unique work, the backer will also receive (as part of their physical reward pack) a business card sized certificate of authenticity. This will be completed by hand and signed by Sam.
You can add additional rewards to your pledge. *APPLIES TO PHYSICAL REWARD TIERS ONLY*

Risks and challenges
The risks are minimal. The main content of the book will be ready to go to print by the end of the campaign. All rewards and Kickstarter exclusives will go into production as soon as the funds are available.
I hope to be able to fulfill all rewards within 4-6 weeks after the completion of a successful campaign, the art commissions may take longer. I have geared all the work involved in creating and delivering the rewards towards the skill-set, experience and contacts I have gained through working in the design industry for over 10 years.
If there are any unforeseen problems, I will be transparent and upfront about it, while keeping all backers updated as I solve them.
With the experience gained from my previous four campaigns, I feel totally confident that I’ll be able to deliver on all of the promises set out above.Learn about accountability on Kickstarter
