Inferno ~ A feature film

We're making an independent HORROR/THRILLER hybrid, executed with hand-made PRACTICAL EFFECTS and shot entirely on 8mm & 16mm B+W FILM.

Inferno is a contemporary adaptation of Dante's Inferno. The film will be shot entirely on traditional motion picture film with hand-made practical effects. Inferno is the story a Dante, a man in the midst of a midlife crisis. At the beginning of the film Dante is a lost soul, unsure of himself and his future. With the help of his guide Virgil, he descends into the underworld and through each of the nine circles of Hell. Each circle represents a different mortal sin, and each circle teaches Dante a different lesson on his path to enlightenment. Along the way the pair encounter treacherous allies, villainous monsters and a number of things that aren't quite what they seem. Ultimately Dante reaches the 9th and final circle of Hell, where me meets Lucifer and learns a lesson which will change him forever.

Creative Equity?

I want you to be a part of this project because I want you to have a 'Creative Equity' in the final project. By participating in this project you gain a level of access and involvement in this project primarily with me, but also with the other people helping fund the film. In short, we form a community. This is very important to the creative process, and will enrich your understanding and experience with the project. You are a participant, and that is EXCITING!

The Same.... but different.

VIDEO UPDATE #1:

Inferno is a contemporary adaptation of a 14th century text. For those of you familiar with the original text you will notice some striking differences. Why is this?

The original Inferno is a poetic tome, it is dense and difficult to read, but it is also incredibly hard for a modern reader to relate to. It is heavily rooted in a knowledge of the classics, most of which a contemporary audience is not familiar with. Much of the allegory used throughout the text is therefore lost to contemporary audiences. However, today's audiences are familiar with a number of other contemporary symbols. In order to reach a modern audience we must use modern symbols they are familiar with.

The idea is to create a film which brings in a new audience, while staying true to the original intent of the author.

What Happens After You're Funded?

We will shoot Inferno in Pittsburgh & Minnesota this winter over 8 weekends. We then transition into an aggressive post-production schedule which will focus on editing, scoring, finishing and mastering the film. After that we focus on fulfillment and getting all these neat rewards into your hands!

Update 1:

As a result of hitting our fund-raising goal for WEEK 1 everyone who pledges (at any level) gets the "Alt-Logo Sticker".

 OH YEAH REWARDS!!!

What is my money used for?

Your money goes to paying a myriad of expenses facing the production of the film.

Ex: Film, Construction, Paint, Location Fees, Costumes Etc.

You should know none of these funds becomes mine, I do not have a line item for 'director' and therefore do not profit off of this Kickstarter.

Who is making the film?

In 2012 Dustin began production on his 2014 film 51 Fragments of a Wandering Mind; a feature-length cultural documentary shot in 13 different countries over the course of 6 months. At the end of 2014 Dustin was again awarded a Jerome Foundation Emerging Artist Production Grant to finance his production Looking At: Looking Into, a film project examining the relationship between media and voyeurism through antique exhibition machines called Mutoscopes.
