Thank you so much for checking out the campaign! The Data Hacker Saga is blossoming into something truly special and unique, and I thank you all for supporting us along the way.
The purpose of this campaign is to ask for the development funds required to complete 'Reboot' - the third title in the series.
Naturally, the game is due to change considerably between now and release, so do keep in mind that much of what you have seen is actually placeholder and not representative of the final product. This is particularly true of the RM-style 'bobble-head' characters.
The Data Hacker Series
The Data Hacker series was originally intended to be a trilogy consisting of Initiation, Corruption and finally ending with Reboot. However, as the scope of the plot and the tendrils of fate expand, so too does our vision for the delivery of the story.
Initiation, the first in the series followed Jay; a hacker banished from his beloved 'Online World'- a game that enraptured millions of players in a post-apocalyptic setting. The game takes place almost entirely within the confines of Online World, and the hidden realms beyond its virtual borders.
Corruption, Initiation's direct sequel then continues Jay's story, and depending on the actions taken in Initiation, sees the player traversing one of two main paths. As always, the core focus is on the narrative and the great questions; what consequences arise from one's actions? Does true evil even exist? And of course, what does it mean to be alive?
Incidentally, we're also intending to revamp both Initiation and Corruption with new character sprites, environmental artwork, character portraits and even more content!
All of the rewards from £15 and onward include a DRM-free copy of both Initiation and Corruption in their current forms, as well as a free update when the revamp goes live! PLUS free Steam, GoG and Desura keys where available!
We've had a considerable amount of praise for the series thus far, so much so that we even had Initiation voted through Greenlight!
"In the first instant, the all-powerful force known as the 'Datastream' shattered the boundaries between the worlds; pouring forth unimaginable power.
In the second instant, energy-saturated Worlds collapsed like paper cups under the immense pressure resulting from the power surge, which in turn created a singularity.
The third instant is paradoxical; despite having consumed everything that ever was, is and shall be; the vortex became self-sustaining, but also imperfec. From then on, the 'Paradoxical Power Vortex' began spewing forth pieces of world, people, and monsters.
We now call those pieces 'World Fractures'."
The stage is set for a struggle that spans many Worlds and their people; a struggle that is bigger than any man, woman or child. Who knows what trials you will face, what adversity you will defy in your quest for the true meaning of existence?
Perhaps one day you and your comrades will find sanctuary; a place where you can build a new life and offer indiscriminate protection for peoples from all Worlds.
You will be tasked with protecting all that remains of the shattered worlds, piecing together an uncertain past, and paving the way for the future.
Good character design is one of the key components of a great story. Each of the characters here can be recruited to join your team, and each comes with their own detailed back-story, hopes, desires and motives.
Thanier is headstrong and compassionate. Nothing gives him more pleasure than helping out those in need, (and if there's a valuable reward on the table, that's even better!). He is a rather flawed character, at least where the title of 'hero' is concerned, but in the end, he usually makes the right decision.

Thanier's twin sister, Anyia, promptly leaves at the beginning of our tale. Thanier just knows that something is up, and he sets out in pursuit.
Anyia is like her brother in many ways; headstrong and sure of herself. She would never admit that she continues to carry the burden of a previous life unforgotten, and the death of the twins' parents.
Damasc heralds from a World in which technological advancement is all but prohibited; a place where those who speak out against the powers are executed without trial.
After a chance drop-in and meeting with Thanier, Damasc soon obtains his own Arm-COM; a device that augments and amplifies a person's synchronisation with the awesome uncanny Power of the Vortex.
Damasc has trouble getting to grips with using the device effectively; specifically the act of bonding with a Familiar, and it is thought that he simply has trouble letting go of the laws once imposed upon him.

Lucile's mother died shortly following her birth, and her Father was always off fighting some bloody battle, 'making the World safer', as he so put it. Due to a mostly sheltered upbringing, Lucile is incredibly naive; often rooting for the good in people's hearts where there might be none. Lucile seeks something intangible; purpose in an otherwise bleak and uneventful life.

Manny heralds from a society of rag-men. For many years, he has acted and feigned level-headedness and a lack of emotion, hiding the truth; he is different from the societal 'template' - an act of heresy that subsequently earns him a sentence of Death.
Because his society do not use labels or names, after his rescue he is dubbed 'Manny' and accepted for who he is - a rather enthusiastic and excitable character indeed.

Kal is a dragon-humanoid with an extensive lifespan and an exceptional level of wisdom and knowledge. He rarely talks about himself, but does give the impression of someone who once held great power and responsibility.

Katiliea is a book-smart young woman who works under the 'Professor' in the steampunk-style city of Victorium. Having lived a sheltered life, she feels that now is the time to break out and see the world fractures! She originally heralds from 'Ars Gothia' - a seemingly futuristic World with the darkest of secrets.

Nothing is more important to Xzus than family. Following the deathly departure of his wife during childbirth, he vowed to make his home world a safer place for his newborn child.
Following the genocidal slaughter of many men, women and children, General Xzus is relieved of his command, whereupon he returns home. At the moment of his arrival, however, a bright, almost palpable light washed over the kingdom, enveloping everything...
Let's Talk Features!
Traditionally-styled RPGs are a time-tested foundation for crafting the most engaging narratives in video games.
We utilise classic systems to create an engaging, well-balanced game which focuses largely on an interesting narrative, revolving around a slew of unique of characters each with their own extensive backstory, but also strives to deliver a fun, engaging and challenging video game.

- Player investment - your save file continues from Reboot into both of the sequels: Infestation and then Conversion.
Combat is a pivotal feature in Reboot, and we intend to make it as fun and engaging as possible, with a myriad of skills, summons, equipment parts, monsters and familiars all combining to allow the player to choose how they wish to play.
We are utilising a turn-based battle system, with enemies depicted on the left, and your team depicted on the right.
Your character's abilities are determined by their class, of which there are over 70 to choose from. Switching classes allows a character to learn some new skills, while still retaining those already learned. How your characters develop is entirely up to you!
Characters can also equip a 'Familiar' - the roaming Spirits of powerful beings whose origins are not clear. Doing so allows your character to gain unique attributes, skills, buffs and even the ability to call upon their chosen Spirit in battle.
All of these customisations combined make for a truly deep and unique gaming experience.
"These worlds are rife with aggression and hatred. I ask of you: Whom is the puppeteer who holds their strings?"
Cava - Also known as 'World-Eaters.' In the few years since the 'event' several World Fractures have disappeared completely, leaving some to speculate that the Cava are responsible. They are darkness incarnate; it's often best to just run away when faced with one.
The Cava monsters are usually visible on the field, and can therefore be avoided... sometimes.
Native - Before the 'event', most worlds were populated with a wide variety of creatures; some hostile and others more benign. Since that fateful time, power torrents have corrupted and mutated many of those creatures. It is, in fact, not uncommon for the Cava to 'recruit' native monsters.
The monsters whom are native to a World Fracture, or not borne of the darkness, ambush the player 'randomly' as they explore each habitat.
Trioarch is an in-game Trading Card Game not unlike card game from past Final Fantasy games. Each player takes turns in placing their cards strategically on the 'battlefield', until all cards are expended. When all cards have been played, the winner of the match is the player with the most 'owned' cards.
Granted, the game is not to everybody's taste, but as a minigame it adds a distraction from the core game; thus adding a new layer of immersion into the game world.
Trioarch will be making a comeback in Reboot, with even more cards to collect, and the additional in-game dynamic that each card bears a different power that can be utilised during battles. EVERY reward tier also includes a 'Print & Play' Trioarch pack!
The Campaign & Stretch Goals
This campaign will cover the cost of the essential artwork (both aural and visual) that is required to provide a framework, thereby allowing myself to actually develop Reboot to the intended standard.
We're asking for £2,900 to assist in the rest of Reboot's development, which will cover the cost of character spriting (field and separate battle sprites), dialogue artwork, environmental artwork, the original soundtrack, monster concept and battle sprites.

Thanks to the recent release of Initiation on Steam, the decision to drop voice-acting, and a little negotiation with third parties, we have been able to ask for less than in the original campaign.
Since we have now officially hit the initial goal, we've moved on to stretch goals! These are located at the top of the campaign page.
New Reality Games specialise in retro RPGs. Those are the games we love to play more than anything! This puts us in a great position to judge the strengths and weakness of other titles on the market to ensure that we don't fall into the same traps.
Ross Tunney - 'The Game Guy'
I'm the writer, creative director, head developer, level designer... the list goes on! Just call me the 'Game Guy'. Data Hacker is a series of games that started out as a hobby project, and has since blossomed into something amazing that has resonated with people all over the world! I am SO passionate about this series, and I really hope that this shows through.
I have been known to work ludicrous hours in order to meet deadlines- I firmly believe that the proof of the pudding is in the eating. As an RPG fan, I feel that I'd be letting both fans, the team and myself down if the games we release were anything less than the absolute best we can produce.
Scott Holmes of Elezeid Audio Studio - Chief Composer
Scott has been on board since the early days of the Data Hacker series, and each soundtrack that he produces really does shine above the last. His talent with the intricacies of composing is overshadowed only by his humility.

Dayna Gibson - Character Artist
"Hi, I’m Dayna, I work on the concept and character art for this truly sensational series. It has been my first project and I couldn’t have asked for a better introduction into the company.
I joined the New Reality Games team at Data Hacker Corruption and even though that was only a short time ago, working with Ross has been amazing! The Data Hacker series has gotten better and better as the games have gone on and that’s what I have tried to do with the art for this new project.
It’s given me the chance to explore with the designs, improve on my skill and thus bring the art for the game up to the same standard needed for such an amazing series!"
Tom Clifford - Character Spriter
Tom contributed a little work to DH:Corruption, and has now decided to join us on a more involved basis. Tom is currently working on character 'field' sprite sets.
Elyse Bartlett - Creature Creator
Elyse has a nightmarish imagination, and this shows through in her monster designs. Every piece submitted shows a variety and horror that really lends credence to the game's monsters.
Q. Why is the goal lower this time around?
A. We've cut out some of the less integral features, such as voice acting (which is incredibly expensive!) and the town management system we had planned for the game. Since Initiation launched on Steam, we also have a bit of revenue coming in that can be plugged straight into developing new titles!
Q. So what does this campaign goal go towards?
A. We are asking for the bare minimum need to fund the most core aspects of the game, such as character artwork (sprites and busts), the soundtrack, base environmental artwork (for use in mapping) and programming. By concentrating the team on these other aspects of the project, I can focus on the (arguably) most important part - weaving a complex and engaging interactive narrative.
Q. Tell me about the games that follow Reboot!
A. The two titles that follow Reboot will allow the player to import their save file, and continue will all their data intact. They will continue the narrative from Reboot, right through to the conclusion of the over-arching plot. Functionally, they will continue use of Reboot's own familiar systems, but will introduce a host of new worlds, characters and locations to explore.

A. Not natively. However, the game runs very smoothly through the latest stable version of Wine - in fact, our lead tester runs the game this way.
Risks and challenges
Risks: Natural Disaster, Disease or Injury.
Aside from something catastrophic happening to myself, I expect that so long as we reach our goal, DH:R will come to fruition. There are however, plenty of-
Finances - It's not unheard of for a project to fall flat, even after a successful funding campaign. However, this cannot possibly be the case with Reboot, since I have been self-funding it up to this point, and would continue to do so (but the development cycle would take a lot longer).
Timescale - During our time making commercial video games, we have learned some very important lessons. Not least of which- Video Games can't always be created to a strict schedule. There are so many aspects of video game development that can throw up brick wall, and it truly is a test of dedication and character as to how you approach these problems. I have personally been known to work into the wee hours of the morn in order to deliver as close to deadline as humanly possible.
Narrative - As a writer at heart, I personally feel that this is one of the most important aspects of the project. What is an RPG without a good story? The story that has been laid out is an intricate one that covers the inter-weaving stories up several individuals, and it's going to take patience and a level-head to pull this off! Fortunately, I am highly confident in my ability to deliver an epic tale.
Programming - Programming provides the fundamental building blocks for any video game; without programming, there is no game! That is why programming of the game's systems is such a high priority in this project. We have the necessary contacts to ensure a polished end product.
Marketing - As an indie developer, we rely on word-of-mouth more than anything. While we try to be as active as possible on social media sites, there really is a limit to how much a small team can do! And that's why we need YOU to help spread the word about this campaign, and following that, the game itself!
When all is said and done, I know how to tackle a lot of aspects of a game like this purely on my own. For the aspects that I'm not familiar with, I've made some amazing contacts, all up-and-coming within the industry, who will be able to help, guide and assist.
