We are film students who are in the middle of production to make a film adapted from HP Lovecraft's original 1919 story "The Statement of Randolph Carter." We are looking for just a bit of funding to help put legs on this micro-budget film!
Adapted from a popular HP Lovecraft story, "Where Terror Sleeps!" will be creepy and atmospheric, paying homage to Lovecraft's style.
The film is about a graduate assistant who follows a professor on an adventure to discover a terrible secret hidden in an ancient tomb. The film is Carter's recounting of the horrific events that took place on this adventure.
We will constantly be updating the page with information about the progress of the production.
Risks and challenges
What film doesn't have its challenges? I find that every film I work on is yet another chance to make mistakes and learn from those mistakes. Challenges include:
-Shooting a well-lit scene at night on location
-Producing a film of such a caliber without the support of institutions such as our film school (this is a truly independent project)
-Creating a marketing campaign around the film which will help it get the distribution it deserves
-Crafting a film which will pay respect to the original short story and to appease HP Lovecraft fans
I have been making films for six years now and have been working with my Director of Photography for three of those years. We have always wanted to make a Gothic horror film, which attracted us to the writings of HP Lovecraft. We have made many films in the past. Admittedly, we have made our mistakes, but we have learned from those mistakes and have actually gotten pretty good at making films.
We have some experience shooting at night on location, but we are hoping, with the right equipment, that we can shoot a night exterior scene and make it look professional.
This is a truly independent film. We aren't even out of film school yet and already we have the confidence to make THIS film. Since this is a personal project, we don't have support from our film school, which means we don't have access to its equipment. Having this budget will allow us to make a film a grade above the usual film school quality.
We have such great confidence in this film that we KNOW it is film festival material. Along with actually making the film, we will create a viral marketing campaign which will not only allow us to get the film into more and more festivals, but to get it seen by more and more people, which is the point of filmmaking.
Above all, this film is a work of love. We love HP Lovecraft and want to make a film that is as true as possible to his style. Everything from shots to performances will homage HP Lovecraft and make fans happy to see a film which is so close to his original vision.
Having a budget of this size will allow us to stretch our legs and make the film exactly how we see it in our minds.Learn about accountability on Kickstarter
