Here's a couple of tunes from our first 2 CD's that are like songs on the new CD:
Now we are raising $6,000 to produce 1,000 CDs and three videos and to promote the CD. In 2012 and 2013, we recorded four songs in the studio. Originally, we planned on just making them available for download and maybe burning some copies ourselves. That all changed when we recorded our May 2014 concert at Epicure Cafe in Fairfax, Virginia. It was a great night with special performances and we decided to release eight of the songs along with the four studio tracks on a full-length CD. We need to promote the CD--we don't want to be able to tell the joke: "Yes, it's been a million seller for us. We have a million of them in our cellar!" We would like to perform more and to develop a presence on YouTube. Of course, that requires funding, so we're asking for your help. Here's a detailed list:
200 - Master 4 studio tracks. Also by Goran Martinac. Mastering is the process that prepares the mixed music to be placed on a CD.
- 600 - Rights for cover songs. There are 6 songs on the CD that were written by other people that aren't in the public domain. We have to pay for the rights to sell them.
1000 - Mix and master live recording. Being done by Goran Martinac in Croatia. He is a talented studio engineer. This is a very reasonable price for this.
1000 - Video production. Dorry Gundy, an award-winning video editor and producer, is Lea and Shannon's mother. She has agreed to create a music video of our cover of John Lennon's "Imagine". We will also have videos made for the single "Wildwood Flower" and "Cripple Creek/Poker Face."
- 1200 - CD Production. We will have the CD's, with a simple, eco-friendly sleeve cover, manufactured by Oasis CD.
2000 - Ruthie Logsdon (www.ruthieandthewranglers.com) is a veteran of the music scene both locally and nationally. We met her through our membership in the Washington Area Music Association. She has a service (www.attractgreatgigs.com) where over the next six months she will help us get gigs with exposure and reach our goal of playing festivals around the East Coast.
If you all are so generous that we surpass our goal, we'll use those extra funds to buy T-shirts and other fun "merch" to sell at gigs and festivals. That would really help us cover the travel expenses!
Risks and challenges
There are two challenges to this project. The first is doing the legwork necessary to get the CD and videos produced. We are qualified to do this because we've already released two CD's, so we know what to do. The second is the work we will have to do to get those gigs that will get us greater exposure to promote the CD. We love what we do and believe we have what it takes to be on a larger stage (literally - Larry stands stage left so he doesn't poke his bandmates with his fiddle bow). So, we will do what it takes.
The one risk is whether the money we've budgeted to get the videos made is enough. But, in the same way we found Goran Martinac, we will use sites like oDesk.com to get bids from all over the world to do this work.Learn about accountability on Kickstarter
