During the fall of 2015, we began our own epic journey to develop the kind of 2D action platform game we all enjoy playing. One with great characters, cool abilities, beautiful settings, awesome audio, and a few tricks of our own. From the very beginning, our development team has been working full time on Little Hawk and we have been entirely self-funded.
The reality is that making a video game like Little Hawk takes a lot of time, plenty of money, and now we need your help to bring our own labor of love to completion.
A village sits at the western edge of a magical forest. As you enter, you see the ravages of evil as those remaining grieve and the village sits in ruins. The Chief is especially distraught because his only child, Princess Kyra, has been captured. With their ranks severely diminished, an unlikely hero emerges in the form of a young man with a big heart, street smarts, and a lot of swagger. After vowing to bring Kyra home safely and vanquish those who brought such angst and destruction, you begin your quest by venturing out into the unknown dangers of a transformed forest.
Along the way, as Little Hawk, you must use your keen instincts, quick reflexes, and unwavering resolve to overcome many challenging obstacles, enemies, and dangers. While you make your way through various zones, Princess Kyra is trapped in the dungeons deep beneath a cursed castle. After completing each zone, you must play as Kyra and try to ascend from the bowels of the castle toward your ultimate escape. But even in escape, the chance for peril still remains.
Ultimately, you must use all your newly acquired skills, and work together, in order to defeat a most powerful foe.
Two heroes are better than one! Play as both Little Hawk and Kyra to defeat Evil!
In ancient times, powers from the most noble and majestic beasts were melded into sacred totems. Each time you defeat an animal boss and collect a totem, you will be rewarded with enhanced abilities. You'll need to collect them all in order to save the day!
Here are a few of our early concept sketches...
Create your own path! Play the worlds in any order as you journey towards the evil castle
Encounter gigantic bosses at the end of each world! Defeat them to collect totems and unlock secret abilities!

Paul is the foreign pen pal of the tribe. Being a hop, skip, and jump across the pond over in England, Paul uses his knowledge from his 10 years of working in the video game industry to help Little Hawk be the best it can be. Having worked on projects such as triple-A titles like the Bafta Award Winning Little Big Planet (PSP), 24: The Game (PS2), special effects work on Heavenly Sword (PS3), some in-show graphics on the BBC’s version of Robot Wars, the TV show. Paul is the go-to guy for some of the toughest programming tasks like physics, rendering, and lighting. Paul loves old retro platformers like the New Zealand Story, Rainbow Islands, Turrican 2, and Rayman Origins.
Spencer is the young artist protege of the tribe. He is a student artist for bZillions. He got involved in the project because his good buddy Sam had some crazy idea to make a video game and Spencer wanted to join in on the fun. Learning valuable skills from school, the rest of the bZillions team, and sketching on his own has made Spencer’s art grow into professional grade work. Spencer loves to play Mega Man 2, The Legend of Zelda, and Mario Bros 3.
Its like a little love note written on the inside of a folded paper airplane that landed on your desk in elementary school from the cutest girl in class - except its an email, and not a paper airplane, and a thank you note not a love letter, and its from Little Hawk and the bZillions team instead of the girl you like… But we promise it'll be just as good!
This is what it all boils down to. The. Game. Cue the sky lights and fireworks! Being an explorer at heart, just like Little Hawk, you will be able to take on the forces of evil with your copy of the game.
Bring a sense of adventure to your everyday life with the game soundtrack. The music will make you feel like an everyday warrior taking on life’s battles just like Little Hawk takes on the forces of evil. Divulge yourself more with a digital art book full of concept art, storyboards and final art decisions that will make you feel like your in this magical forest world yourself.
Credits are a place where those who worked on the game are given their due, and you belong right along side the developers. There will be a list of all the donors who gave a heroic amount and with this listing comes great honor and bragging rights.
A true legend’s name is immortalized in the hearts of all who know him, but we will also immortalize your name in the legendary Golden Circle in the credits. This special area is reserved for those who go above and beyond and give a legendary amount because you are, well, legendary.
Once you are emerged in Little Hawk’s world, you will have the freedom to roam about the village before starting on the journey. There in the heart of the village lies the Wall of Fame. Listed are all of the champions of the tribe to be remembered and honored forever. Among those champions, your name will be enshrined alongside your picture for all to remember and honor.
Risks and challenges
Two of the greatest challenges in making a video game are getting it done on time and on budget. Our development team has years of experience shipping titles for the gaming industry that meet these criteria. We are veterans at running game studios, but more than that, we have experience making games that are compelling and fun to play.
With Little Hawk, we are excited to be working directly with gamers and applying their feedback to our design. We want to get it right. Sometimes that means that we will make changes in order to improve the game play experience. Unfortunately, that may also mean delays. We take our responsibility to ship on-time seriously and we vow to only change our schedule when the benefit is significant to our players.Learn about accountability on Kickstarter
