Dev Diary #10: New characters and books

Just a quick update. 

While we have been busy importing assets into our first real playable "chunk", we have also been working hard on some new characters and book illustrations.

I just want to say thanks again for your patients during our legal issues and virtual restart.

Now that things are pretty much back to normal we will be able to deliver more content on a regular basis in our updates. 

Just a note on the Demongeon minigame. It did not get lost in the legal shuffle. We'll have more on that soon. It's gonna be awesome!

Below are a few more raw assets used to build our levels. In 2d games, these are what are known as "tiles". They basically fit together and allow you an endless combination of ground to walk on.

...For example just think mario bros.  You can even google "nes tilessets" if you are interested in seeing more of how this style works. 

Where just doing it with photos instead of pixel art!

Dev Diary #10 - 887 Trees!

Well despite all the drama we shared with you last week, we have been moving forward. If you aren't sure what I'm talking about, please read the last update (its pretty important).

Filling in the first forest. We are starting to get photos cataloged and ready to roll. The samples today are of some trees and a few chunks of land to give you and idea of what you will be running around on.

The first forest has 887 trees ready to go so far! WHAT??? Why so many?? It's not easy to recreate a specific photo shoot given our current situation and our new tiny studio. We want to make sure we have plenty options when putting the final product together, so we don't have to go back if we miss something.

Technology stuff for those who care. Since we aren't using any digital or 3d modeling, we have to work with nothing more than 2d images or "sprites". To make the game feel more dynamic we shoot everything in very plain white light and use in-game lighting to darken or lighten the scene and cast real time shadows much as you would see in a modern 3d game. We use bumpmaps to trick the light into thinking it's hitting 3d objects.

update on the mini-game, Spotify soundtrack and more

This is an update on that mini-game mentioned in the update before last.

The Mini-game (AKA Demongeon) is moving right along. Even though we mentioned it was pretty much ready to submit, we just don't have it in our blood to half-ass anything (Except for when I crank out these updates without proof reading or spell-checking anything). We haven't gone overboard but we did add and tweak some things. (I'll add some screenshots below)

The opening track shared with Knite was good but,  we felt it needed a little something.... 

Lex cranked out 3 brand new original songs with a completely diff vibe than the music from Knite. Its heavy, its dark and it seems to fit nicely in a fast paced game with a demon (at least we think so)!

We'll have more ways to get the music coming up too. So, if you don't use Spotify, don't worry!

So when can we play the game?

It's just matter planning the release and getting some press lined up. It's just a mini-game but we wanna do it right! In other words we pretty dang close!

Platforms?

All the major mobile platforms for sure (iOS, Google Play, Windows Phone, Amazon)

We're still looking at desktop options. No word exactly but we'll get it on something. Most likely browser based for cross platform.

Dev Diary #9 - Knite's house.

The game starts in Knite's town. To be more specific, it starts in his house.
