What's wrong with giving your mom a cat calendar every year as a Christmas present?
There's nothing wrong with this in itself, but being an artist and a cat owner, I thought why not provide a more personal gift?
People love to be entertained by cats. I know I do. Lets work together to make a cat calendar for you and your mom!
With 53 weeks of submissions, hopefully most breeds will be represented in my uniquely illustrated cat calendar. There is an overlapping week at the beginning of the year, that's why it's 53 not 52.
I can paint a realistic cat if I wanted, but I prefer this slightly illustrative style and I think you'll like it as well. Each painting would take a few hours or more to make. I'll be working in Acrylic on canvas. You would then own an original piece of art that was featured in this custom creative cat calendar.
Submissions, you ask?
I'll create the paintings from photos of your cat/s to include in the project. Your submission will be a contract allowing me to reproduce a likeness of your cat upon the goal being reached. The photo must be yours, and not taken off the internet.
Upon fulfillment of 52 weeks of rewards, I will print all reference photos and begin the painting
Upon finalization of the art and design, the original art corresponding to the calendar week that you helped fund will be mailed to you.
The design/layout of the calendar will be a simple 8.5" x 11" calendar, showcasing the cat art . You'll have a small view of the next week and month as well as the current week.
Not every week is equal
Do you want your cat to be showcased on Valentines Day or New Years or Christmas? Premium holidays will be set up as a premium pledge.
Can I pledge multiple weeks? You can, with different cats.
Can I have multiple cats in an image? You can, but you must select the cat multiplier option for the appropriate number of additional cats.
How to pose the cat? The photo should be clear and preferably have the face looking at the camera. I will likely take liberties in how the cat is sitting/laying to make it fit the style.
Here are some tips for your photo submission:
Suggest a pose/background? You can suggest one when you submit your photo, but I can't guarantee that's going to be the end result. I will likely keep the backgrounds very simple if it's overly complex. Maybe the 2017 calendar can be more complicated if this works out.
What about 2017? If 2016 works out, I hope to make a 365 day desktop/peel-off calendar, with a 12-month standard size option.
Stretch goal of $30,000, the original art will become 12"x12" on 1.5” deep art canvas, and you'll receive an additional calendar.
Stretch goal of $40,000, the original art will become 16"x16" on 1.5” deep art canvas, and you'll receive an additional two calendars.
Stretch goal of $60,000, the original art will become 24"x24" on 1.5” deep art canvas, and you'll receive an additional five calendars.

Please note: This is original art! Not clip art or something you've ever seen before. The images that I create will be protected by copyright law, and will be registered. The purchase of original art allows you to hang it on your wall and enjoy it. I don't plan on allowing scanning/sharing of these images on social media outside links I provide, as there are several companies online that scour websites for images to steal and create calendars of their own. I may make low-resolution/watermarked images available at a certain goal level. I may also create a stock-art use website for these images whether for digital or other print use. If you aren't cool with this, please don't make a pledge.
Risks and challenges
The only concern would be if everyone submitted multiple cats within one photo. That would add more time needed to paint, but there would still be plenty of time by the end of the year.
There is a possibility that people just want cat calendars, but not the custom art choice. If the project gets the full funding but ends up missing premium week pledges due to the higher costs, I will randomly pick already submitted pledges to appear for FREE within those weeks. I would likely ask for an additional photo for that. I'm shooting for 52 unique weeks at this point.
As long as the project is funded prior to the end of Summer, there is no doubt that I'll be able to paint the 52 cats and design/print the calendar. I was once involved in a project where I painted 75 illustrations in three months for an educational publisher. I also worked in newspaper publishing where we'd put out 72 pages every day, 120+ on Sunday.Learn about accountability on Kickstarter
