SO YOU WANT TO BE A PATRON OF THE ARTS!
Who we are, what we want from you, and why
Never has there been a more noble group of starving artists than Astoria Music & Arts, and James Call and the Missing Teens. We are engaged in producing one of the more ambitious theatrical acts of 2010: a combination live rock performance and faux motivational seminar. This requires some cold hard cash for rehearsal space rentals, costume pieces, props, top ramen money for the musicians and dancers, a headset microphone, and a stipend for recording the show. We are starving artists, trying hard just to pay our rent and feed ourselves; you are the fiery angels from heaven who will help this show come alive.
Our fundraising goal is $2,000 by October 8th, and raising that amount of money in just over a month is no small challenge. We need as many small donors as we can, but we also need a few high rollers to step in and do us a favor on our daughter's wedding day, as they say. All donors get some bang for their buck; see the backers reward section for specifics.
Why The Power of the Crystals? Why not some other show?
The Power of the Crystals is a demanding and yet rewarding production. It combines high-octane live music with sophisticated, surrealistic comedy in a way that simply isn't happening in New York City or elsewhere these days. Has it been done before? Probably. I dunno, can you name one combination of rock music and theatre that wasn't cornball musical melodrama or lowest-common-denominator raunch successfully produced in the past few decades? Neither can we. Time to change that situation.
Ok, what do I get when I donate?
Studies have shown that patrons of the arts generally enjoy higher self-esteem than non-patrons, that they are looked on as leaders of their communities, and generally enjoy bragging rights over their neighbors. Really, only smoking a cigar hand-made from dollar bills is a more extravangant display of your economic security and superiority. But in case the esteem of your peers and ego gratification isn't enough, check out the "Backers Rewards".
With offers like this, can you afford »NOT« to donate?
To conclude: We cannot put on this show unless we raise at least $2,000, and that requires a donation from you. Please donate today. We are trying to do something different in the staid world of both rock and theatre. Please, help us succeed.
