Welcome to our Kickstarter for our new creator owned graphic novel series Nasty Girls!
Nasty Girls is about a group of young women who are fed up with the way that people treat them, and women like them, and decide to do something about it. As the punk rock band Misfit Toys, they struggle to be heard, but as underground vigilantes, they really begin to make their mark.
The title of the comic is a play on the phrase “nasty woman,” something that Hillary Clinton was called during the last US Presidential election, and which has come to be seen as a rallying cry for women’s rights. Nasty Girls is all about contemporary feminism, representation, and is our way of promoting social consciousness and embracing the authentic spirit of subversion and counterculture that is punk rock.
On stage, the Misfit Toys are just your average, ordinary rock band. Lexx sings like a rock and roll angel, Mercy is the queen of guitar riffs, Yun plays a mean bass, and Rana kicks ass on the drums. Sure, they're not particularly well known yet and no, they don't exactly have what you might call a fan base, but they do have instruments and write their own music! Everyone knows that's the hard part, anyway.
So yeah, everything was going just fine until those hecklers. And then the arrest. And the review in the newspaper, but really, how was Mercy supposed to respond? Ignore them? No way! That's how the patriarchy wins! And now they've got a bad reputation. Good thing they don't give a damn.
Well, if people are going to call them nasty, these girls might as well prove them right.
Meet the Band
Lexx and Aubrey are sisters who couldn’t be less alike. Lexx is the lead singer of the band. She enjoys being in the spotlight and is more than willing to take a stand for what she believes, even when it’s difficult. She wants to do right by her friends and her little sister.
Aubrey doesn’t quite have her sister’s confidence, so she prefers to play more of a supporting role, which is why she’s the roadie and driver for the Misfit Toys AKA Nasty Girls. She’s probably the most patient of the group, willing to wait and see what happens, rather than make any rash decisions.
Mercy has been Lexx’s best friend since they were little kids and will pretty much back Lexx up no matter what. Mercy is the sort of person who will always look out for her friends, whether they need her to or not. She is stubborn and brave and is absolutely someone you do not want to make an enemy of.
Rana is the foundation of the group. She’s solid and dependable and is the one that everyone comes to when they need help. She’s got determination for days. Once she decides to do something, there is nothing that can change her mind or stop her from seeing it through.
Yun is basically the team mom. She really just wants to take care of everyone and make sure they’re drinking enough water and doing okay emotionally. Of all the girls, she’s probably the most tactful and diplomatic and is usually the one negotiating disagreements in the group and encouraging reconciliations.
