What is this project about?
Many athletes cut weight unprofessionally and suffer while doing so, but weight cutting doesn't have to be torture. There are easier ways to make weight besides running in sweat suits. As a former -48kg competitor I understand what a struggle feels like. I decided to study as a dietitian to better my judo career and now wrote this book to help others. I competed in hundreds of competitions, came back with medals from Grand Slams and Grand Prix tournaments, and always controlled my weight.
Weight cutting and performance
When published, the book will be the first nutrition book written by a successful athlete who is also an experienced dietitian. "Making Weight & Everything Else" is written in English and covers everything a combat sport fighter needs to know about food. It includes 193 pages, divided into 7 chapters and a foreword by Neil Adams.
"Making Weight & Everything Else" will be printed in a 6x9 inch format, with a soft cover, which makes it easy to toss in your bag and take with you to competitions and training camps.
What kind of questions are answered in the book?
- How to improve performance and recovery with food?
- How to lose and gain weight safely?
- How to cut weight efficiently in a healthy way?
- How to choose sports drinks?
- What to eat during a competition day?
- What are the right supplements for you?
- How to plan a healthy diet to support your training?
- What should young athletes eat? Can they cut weight?

Who is this book for?
I wrote this book with Roni Schwartz who was also a high-level judo competitor, but "Making Weight & Everything Else" is definitely not for judokas alone. It is written for everyone who is involved in combat sports, from high-level athletes who aim for the Olympic games to young athletes. It even has a chapter for parents and coaches!
"Making Weight & Everything Else" fits athletes from all martial arts: Judo, wrestling, jiu-jitsu, karate, boxing, MMA, taekwondo and more.
Amelie Rosseneu (author): Certified dietitian and judo coach, who competed at international level for Belgium and Israel. She won the U23 European title and over 25 international medals, including Grand Prix and Grand Slam tournaments, was seven times senior national champion in Belgium and Israel and twice finished in fifth place in senior European championships.
During her judo career, Amelie completed her bachelor’s degree in nutrition and dietetics, and opened her own practice as a dietician. She wrote and taught the nutrition course for the Belgian judo trainers’ course, and has published several articles on sports nutrition and judo.
Roni Schwartz (co-author): Certified judo coach. Won over 25 international medals, including Grand Prix and Grand Slam tournaments and was the captain of the national Israeli judo team for 7 years.

Risks and challenges
The book is ready and the estimated delivery time is November 2017.
There's not much left to do for us - only print and ship it - but we can only start doing so after the Kickstarter campaign is funded successfully. Printing will take about a week, standard shipping takes 7-32 days depends of the destination country. Those are estimations that we don't have a complete control over. If there is any problem with delivery we will do our best to solve it with the backer.
