We have been blessed to work on some of the most known properties in the world: Marvel comics work, DC comics, Star Wars, Transformers, Star Trek, Firefly, Lord of the RIngs, and more. one of the only projects that still eludes us is G.I. Joe... and as kids of the 80's, we have a need to fill.
And that is where Half the Battle comes in!
This fan project is just that: a labor of love on one of our favorite properties that is designed to share our vision of the Real American Heroes and their nemesis, Cobra.
We hope that we can share our art with fans both old and new, and eventually, gain a spot at the annual Joe Con as guest artists. We know that this project will allow us to do both of those things, all the while, putting a beautifully, crafted book on our tables at other conventions.
We claim no rights over the characters, only over our art. The book is to be intended for fan and academic purposes.
The book itself will have the following specs:
Softcover measuring 6x9
40 pages (half by each artist)
black and white interiors and cover
Once the initial goal is met, we will institute the following the following stretch goals ( and of course more incentives to help meet them:)
color cover ( which will allow for prints of the cover as well) to be done if we hit $900
8.5 x 11 Hardcover instead of paperback (which only adds to the value of your support) to be done if we hit $2000. We honestly believe that we can hit this with the incentives, but we will leave that up to you, the backers, to see to it!
We will be adding 2 new pieces of art every day starting on day 6, until all art is shown and available for purchase through the incentives.
Additionally, we will add more commission spots if those who want them can get us info quickly so that commissions can be started early.
Thanks for taking a look! We love the support that the KS community has given us in the past.
Risks and challenges
We have done one project together, and Jason has done about 5 separately. We know what can go wrong.
Shipping is always the biggest issue with these projects, as packaging can take almost two days just to get stuff ready. Bukshot is now doing art full-time, and Jason has the summer off from teaching art- this is the best time to avoid delays!
Also, commissions can be time consuming. To ease this, we are offering more art from the book that is already done. also, we are offering only a small number of commissions. We may offer more if, and only if, we can get our backers to give us the commission wish-lists early. This too will help get the product and the commissions out on time.
