Hi everyone,

Let's get straight into it. So where are we at?

The answer is that we are getting there, just very slowly. We are in the very last stages of production now. All the Munchers have now finished being cnc'd and are either being polished /sand blasted or laser engraved. The photo below shows polished Munchers waiting to be sand blasted.

So why don't you have your muncher yet?

We haven't been able to send out the munchers yet because they are not finished (I guess that is stating the obvious, but that is indeed the case). Our manufacturer has experienced irregularities with portions of the manufacturing run. When the munchers have gone through quality control checks, we have found that a good portion have needed to go through an extra deburing process, which involves using a hand dremel (as shown below) to shave off the excess burring (they cannot go into a tumble machine as it would blunt all the edges). This along with every muncher being hand polished takes a lot of time. Our manufacturer is being very meticulous with quality control checks as they go along, so none go through that are not perfect (again more time).

When will I get my muncher?

I have been hounding my manufacturer for the past few months with this question (as I am definitely feeling the pressure), but their responce is that they can't give an exact date because they don't know how many need the extra processes until they have gone through each quality control check. I am really hoping that by the start of August they will all be ready to go out.

I know it has been quite awhile since my last update. The reason for this is, well... .. because there really hasn't been much to report on except everything is taking much longer then expected, and no one really wants to keep hearing that over and over again.

I am really sorry that we have experienced all these delays and you don't have your munchers yet. We are now on the very last final stretch, so please hang in there. I am really trying to get your Munchers out to you as quickly as possible, please believe this. Hopefully not much longer now. Thank you all for your patience.

Cheers

Mark

OK so... We were really hoping to use these around June for a big climb. It's now August and we are losing confidence. It looks like a great product with precision quality control but delay no more and let's get them to use.

....I know, Mr. Captain obvious but we are losing our excitement for it and want to use them asap. It's that cool!

Keep going and try not to stress! Manufacturing is TOUGH and you are making a new product; development and process/quality maturation takes time...

      Well done and good luck!

PS - the Munchers look way cool, and the t-shirt the dremel user is wearing is hilariously apropos!

I'm cheering you along and I appreciate all you have to say about aiming for quality. I would only say don't ever hesitate to post even a brief update saying you've encountered another challenge or are still working things out. Delays happen, especially when creators care about quality. No one should ever back a KS project with the expectation that they'll get a product in a specific amount of time, but we should expect - and do appreciate - regular updates and the chance to offer our encouragement. Again, best of luck with getting through all this and I hope the manufacturing gets easier!

I'll agree with the others that quality taking more time is OK in my book. I'd rather have something that I can use rather than something I will toss in a drawer and forget about!

      Thanks for the update!

Thanks for the Update. I'm not worried about the delay. Anything that goes in my mouth must be perfect, or why bother?

Mark- Thanks for the update - I still have a couple of months before vacation! And I can use other utensils if need be. I'm happy you're getting the kinks out on us before you open for the public!
I still think it's a pretty cool tool, and look forward to my shiny and safe Muncher!

No problem I know how it is getting something mass manufacturered usually has some hick-ups, but they look good in the photos and pleased your putting QA first. Thanks :David

Having back several kickstarter projects, I'm well aware if the manufacturing/quality controls issues a project can have especillay when dealing with foreign manufacturers Everyone is calm Vince, some folks are understandably disappointed that the product is several months past the projected delivery date.

Really disappointed. My last planned backpacking trip is in 3 weeks and I'd really hoped to have it by then. I don't know if/when I'll be back out this year. Ah well, I'll tuck it away in my pack when it arrives.

No worries, Mark. Shit happens and it sure looks like everybody is doing their best to get stuff fixed. Better take your time (and be frank about it) and get quality out, than rushing it and putting out 50% junk.
