Now for the STORY: Rootstand has spent the greater part of the last decade touring and working with both larger national bands and smaller regional acts to create dynamic and sustainable performances. From the Appalachians to the Rockies, the High Sierras, Cascades and back, Rootstand has laid a foundation mile after mile. Our tours in Colorado and the greater Mountain states coast to coast have sprouted us a crop of fans. Not just kids from back in the mitten, but generations of fans who relate to our sound and way of life on a national level.
Through all this, our bus rolled faithfully mile after mile, years past what we expected, until finally "she creaks but she holds" became a wishful thought. We knew this past tour that the hard miles were over, and that the bus that had taken us through low tides and high mountains could no longer get us to the next show. It now sits peacefully in a northern Michigan forest, awaiting its future as a beach shuttle, hunting camp, or guest cabin.
For a band, having a bus was monumental, and we relished the the value it added to Rootstand and our fans. The bus was a haven for others around us; fans and friends alike. It was a pioneer place, outside the boundaries of the rules of people's daily lives, a devil's therapy of sorts, a temporary place where people could rest their souls and then go about their regular lives refreshed in some way. A friend had once commented that the bus was part of our "brand." When it was not there - like in the shop or something - it threw off our performance, or as blues musicians know it, our mojo.
We started 2013 knowing that we needed to find another bus. A bus that would once again take the Rootstand message across America and eventually to the world. Kickstarter gives us the opportunity to let our friends, family, fans and many supporters take a role in the purchase of our next ride. In doing so, you will not only help spread the Rootstand message, but you will get some awesome gear, tickets, good company, and great jams along the way!
Risks and challenges Learn about accountability on Kickstarter
Our goal is to bring Rootstand's Rebel Rootsgrass and Reggae Music to the World. There are many challenges to this goal. So, we decided to break it down into small steps or chapters as we like to call them. Chapter One is obvious and the easiest to complete. To get the message out, a band must tour and to tour, a band must have a way to travel together as a group. It is not sustainable economically, environmentally, socially or otherwise for a band to travel in separate cars.
Chapter One - The Rootstand Bus.
The first step in this chapter is locating the bus...we found her! And being mindful of expenses, it is a used bus that we can refurbish. Now, the bus and insurance must be purchased. Finally, the remodeling; so that we can sleep on it, eat on it, create on it and socialize on it. We also plan on converting the engine so we can use more environmentally sustainable fuel.
The total cost of all of this is going to be much higher than our goal in this Kickstarter campaign. We estimate that the final cost will probably be closer to $10,000. With the amount we raise here, the bus can be funded. This bus is usable without remodeling so we can tour with it immediately. If we raise more than our goal, the additional amount will go towards the refurbishing of the bus.
If this Kickstarter Campaign - Chapter One: In Search of the Rootstand Bus - is successful, look forward to future campaigns - or Chapters - to further our ultimate goal of sending the Rootstand experience to the world.
If we DON'T reach our Goal.
We get nothing. You pay nothing. No fan incentives are given and we go back to driving our separate cars to concerts.
Frequently Asked Questions...
"I'm too excited! How do I get started right now?"
It's easy, and incredibly quick! Just click the green "Back This Project" button on this page and follow the steps. It should take you less than 2 minutes to complete the entire process.
"If I make a pledge, when is my card charged?"
If the project you’re backing is successfully funded, your card will be charged when the project reaches its funding deadline. If the project does not reach its funding goal, your card is never charged. That's why we call them pledges.
"If funding does not succeed do backers pay anything?"
Nothing. If funding is unsuccessful, all pledges are canceled and that's that.
"Is my pledge amount publicly displayed?"
No. Only you and the project creator will be able to see your pledge amount.
"I would LOVE to give this to a friend or family member as a gift. Can I?" YES! Spectacular idea. If you would like to help grow the Rootstand Family beyond yourself, please go through the normal process of making a donation in your name. Then, when we reach out to you via e-mail to request additional information, please tell us who should receive the reward.
"Can I increase my pledge once it has been made?"
YES! Once you donate to the campaign, you may want to change your incentive reward to a different one, or simply increase your pledge amount. To do so, please sign onto Kickstarter as usual. On our campaign page, click the blue button that reads "Manage Your Donation." If you click it, you can enter a new amount, or choose a new incentive!
"Can I pledge for more than one incentive?"
Absolutely! There is no limit to the amount you can pledge or number incentives you may receive. ("Limited" incentives excluded)
"Can people from outside the US pledge to projects?"
Yes! Anyone, anywhere (with a major credit card) can pledge to Kickstarter projects. However, we only ship to US addresses, so, contact us if are international and we will discuss how to fulfill the award to you and let you be part of our family.
Have a question? If the info above doesn't help, you can ask the project creator directly.
