ORPDATE #45: FINALLY, well, almost...

The good news is, yes, finally, we've got Orps fresh from the factory. The bad news is it's only a partial order and  we did not receive any Glorps or Aorta Red Orps. We are also short  by 1/2 for the rest of the colors .We have almost all the Asphalt  blacks. Yeah, it sucks.

You may remember from a previous Orpdate, I was against the partial order idea but with Chinese New Year (CNY) happening now, waiting another 2 weeks would have me at 400lbs due to stress eating.

Orps will be distributed on a First Backed-Ordered / First Delivered system.  We think this makes the most sense and is the most fair. Of course, those of  you that ordered Glorps or Aorta Reds early will still need to wait and I'm super sorry about that. I guess the factory was saving the best for last.

We should have the remainder of the Orps sometime after February  10, 2014 (CNY ends then}. I am not going give a date  as I have zero idea what the post CNY hangover is about.

Because of this issue, I know some of you will be in the wait longer and I know it stinks.

Anyhow we're starting to get them out  and we'll move as fast as we can. Thanks for your continued patience. I'll have more on Orp as soon as we get some of them out the door.

      Sara and Everybody,
      Please read Orpdate #46.

    2. Sara Kazemi on February 6, 2014

Mine came today! Hooray. Also curious about what "remote ready" means.

    3. Tory Orzeck Creator on February 6, 2014

I'll have more on the Remote Ready in an Orpdate soon.

    4. Dan Goldstein on February 5, 2014

Great Job Tory - Just got mine today and am looking forward to trying it out tomorrow on my morning commute into downtown SF.
Also curious about this "remote ready" it says on the box.
In general congrats! I know its been a long journey so it must feel good.

The noise is a feature! It s just some feedback picked up by the sound emitter we could not engineer out on this first version.
As for the smell, your Orp should smell like fresh thermoplastic and silicone.
They should smell more like new running shoes.

Got mine today. Whats with the burnt smell? And mine makes humming noise when the light is on.

      Orp arrived! How orptastic!!

      Hi Tru,

To get Orp in the anti Dooring mode,
First make sure your Orp is powered up.
Then hit the power button on top first slight ly a head of pushing down the WailTail. You should then get a strobing loud 96dB sound.

The idea is when you are in a tight street lined with parked cars on your right (in the USA ) and too fast traffic on your left the strobing sound will alertdrecently parked drivers of your approaching presence, so hopefully, you don't get doored!

This may also be good where you have a mix of pedestrians, lolly gaggers and bike all together like on the west side of the willamette in Portland. Yeah it's obnoxious.

We 're anxious for feed back.

By the way, what is the Anti-Dooring mode? I just can't figure out how to put the ORP in that mode to test it. From the picture on the inside of the box, it looks like I am supposed to press the power button and the wail tail simultaneously after turning on the ORP but no matter what I do, it just doesn't put the ORP in that mode.

I am with Brian. Got my Orp today and it exceeded my expectation. I am sure I will get plenty of question about it on my next group ride (even though with the lousy weather we have been having lately, it may be March before that happen). Great job Tory! I will be pointing my club members to your store so I hope you get your inventory logistics work out in a hurry.

Good to hear your Orp made it. Its still Chinese New Year and I've not heard the ETA for future deliveries. Job 1 is to get the remainder of the initial order and then the next order.

I will let everyone know when the Storp is reopened or where else Orps may be found.

Got my orp today and it is amazing!!! Now I want to order more! Looks like the store is sold out. Any chance I can get my hand on two more?

      I will soon.

      Hey Tory,

Recently moved abroad. Any way I can change my delivery address?

    19. Tory Orzeck Creator on January 30, 2014

Sara is sort of right. The complication are the colors and a few people ordered more than 1 Orp. Knowing only your backer number is not enough. We just got them and we have not cracked open every box.
They all feel like they are Orp filled, but you never know!

    20. Sara Kazemi on January 30, 2014

Hooray! Thank you! Backers, you can find out your backer number easily enough through the iOS and Android apps by tapping on "View pledge." Your backer number will be under your name. That should make it easier (and less time intensive for Tory) for you to guesstimate whether or not your Orp will be in the first shipment. For example, there are 1,504 backers--46 of which pledged an amount that did not secure them an Orp. That's 1,458 backers who are getting AT LEAST ONE Orp. I'm backer #380 and I got plain ol' black Orp so it's very likely that I'll be getting mine in the first shipment. Yes.

    21. Marsha Hanchrow on January 29, 2014

Since I neither know when I became a backer nor what color I chose, I'm still not allowing myself to expect anything at any particular time. I've also got bar mitts on now, and I don't think they will play well with the Orp until it gets a remote that I can put inside a mitt. So my preferred bike will have to wait to sport an Orp regardless (but I could put it on my backup bike until then).

My local-delivery-by-bike offer still stands, of course.

    22. Tory Orzeck Creator on January 29, 2014

Wow, Katt. if you are in the first half, that's an actionable offer!

    23. Tory Orzeck Creator on January 29, 2014

We'll try to do this, its the color mix that is really going to make this a more than brain dead.operation. Send me an email at:

I greatly appreciate the effort you are putting in to getting things right, from fair staggered shipping to "ironing out the bugs" to quote a fellow backer. I'll take late quality over early half-ass anyday. I know it won't be long before my wife is sick of "Check this out! 'ORRRP!' 'CHIRP CHIRP!' 'BLINK BLINK'"

    25. DC Rainmaker on January 29, 2014

Can you give just a rough cutoff date for the order batch vs initial order date? In other words, if one 'backed' on X date, they'll likely be within the first batch?

    26. Kat Ferr on January 29, 2014

Sweet news! Excitedly waiting! I'm not sure what number I am on the list but you can give mine to someone else early on if that's the case. I don't mind waiting extra! The snow has kicked my butt this winter so have stored my bike and taken up this thing called walking to work...

    27. Tory Orzeck Creator on January 29, 2014

We are ordering all the backers by date of backing and the going down that list. If we have their color then we ship. Your idea is very high level concierge service. This is big logistics undertaking. and we cannot guarantee we will let each individual know. Email me directly.

Better some Orp than no orp! (I feel like I should be using some reference to the Sandlot now, S'more orps, er smoprs? How can we have smorp's if we haven't had any?)
