Update #50

ORPDATE #50: SECOND BATCH IS IN! GLORPS AND REDS ARE HEAR, I MEAN, HERE!

Backers and Pre-Orderers,

MOM, I ATE THE PHOSPHORUS AND I TASTE BLOOD IN MY MOUTH:  Finally, we received a second batch of Orps which includes  the previously missing  Aorta Red and Glorps. Did we get all the Glorps we were promised? No, of course not. We are still short, but the factory says we will have them shipped mid April (2014). I know....
Maybe if all of us think only good thoughts, we will be getting a continuous stream of Orps and this won't be a big deal.

CHANGE IS GOOD: These Orps feature a running change to the  horn's actuation.  UP for the Friendly Sound and DOWN  for the Loud Sound. We think this is a simper solution to actuating the two alert sounds and it solves some of our production issues.  In fact, some of  our now much bigger sample size of users actually suggested this.

If you have the original version,  that's great too. This is Kickstarter and we are all beta testers for this new device and we learn  new things from  a bigger sample size.  Thanks for the feedback.

These Orps will start  shipping  this week. To save trees, we are using the original packaging and  we're including a printed graphic that provides an updated instructional pictogram  that should be referred to  instead of the  inside of box  instruction panel #3. If you've never had an Orp, this will require  no re-learning. If you've had previous Orp experience {like we have}, then you  may need to enroll in our 4 week Orp Re-Education Camp.

We're excited to announce this year's  program will be held in Manatee-filled  Crystal River Florida!  Between the intensive muscle memory retraining sessions and forced  labor, you' ll get the chance to swim with these Orp-like gentle giants and enjoy a manatee burger at some of the  local restaurants. Yeah, its a little weird. I guess they just love manatees in a different way,

Ok, I'm kidding  about  the Re- Education Camp, forced labor and the manatees.  Seriously, it's a simple change for the better.

Backers and Pre-Orderers,

We have delivered over 1000 Orps and still have a handful more to go of the first batch. As anticipated, the  partial shipment with its reduced quantities and  our mix of colors has made the logistics more complex which has taken longer than expected.

International Orps being packed.
International Orps being packed.

We definitely have learned a few things from our backers in Europe and especially Germany as German Orp adoptees  require additional papers to get to their new parents. We are now sending commercial invoices out to all the Deutschlanders when we send to Germany. Sorry for the hassle.

FINE FOR THOSE GUYS, BUT WHAT ABOUT EVERYONE ELSE THAT'S STILL WAITING?

Right. We know how frustrating it is to still not have your Orp and we are hounding the factory to go as fast as they can to get the Orp production line back up and running. The problem was there were production problems with some of the boards but this problem was not so obvious. It was not until the Orps were fully assembled that the problems revealed itself.

So the factory has switched vendors for the main PCB and this happened right at the break for Chinese New Year. , only complicating the schedule. The factory is now qualifying this new vendor and we should be up and running in 2 weeks. I'm really sorry how long this is taking.

We expect/ hope to have  the remainder of the first order by the end of March and will fulfill the  entirety of the Kickstarter backers and website pre-orders shortly thereafter.

I will kick in with another update  when I get anymore news, good or bad. Thanks again for your  continued patience. If anyone just wants to call me and rant, feel free.

Backers, current  and future Orp recipients,

I forgot  a few other things:

G.  Orp has a buzz

There is a little  electronic feedback in the  LED wires of Orp that  gets picked up by the sound emitter giving Orp a pleasant buzz when Orp's LEDs are on. It is mostly noticeable  when in Constant-On mode.

H.  When Orp is fully charged, Orp works best

We've found Orp is loudest when fully charged. Our circuit is designed to keep performance consistent but the above statement still holds true.

I. We want your feedback

Don't hold back, we want to hear your complaints. This is the first Orp and we know it's not perfect. Perfect is out there and all we can do is try to get closer. With your help we'll get there faster on future Orps.

ORPDATE #46 EXPANDED INSTRUCTIONS

 Orp recipients,

The first batch of Orps are shipping and I think a few things need to be further explained as well as I want to point out a few Orp peculiarities and special features.

A. Please  have a look on the inside of the box for the "no need to be able to read" instructions.

If you can't read, get a friend to read this Orpdate to you.

I may reference the numbered steps in the expanded explanations below.

Fig. 1 Orp instructions, flat.
Fig. 1 Orp instructions, flat.

B. #1 Mounting your Orp

Your Orp needs to face forward on your bars. If you have road bars you may want to put your Orp on the Left side of the stem so, if you need to brake. you have a hand on the rear brake.

If you have straight bars where you can actuate your Orp with your thumb and still have a hand on the grip +  brake and your orp is facing forward well,  great!

Orp was designed to sit low on the bar and was built on a specific diameter. If you need to put your Orp on a less than a  25mm diameter bar you'll need to use the SHORP {shim for Orp} to fatten up your bar

Make sure  The SHORP is at a comfortable  room temperature and has remained clean. Wrap your SHORP around your bar as shown in the instructions and make sure  to stretch it on the bar. Release the adhesive cover and  press all over the adhesive area  to make sure you have a strong "Pressure Sensitive" bond. The SHORP need only be stuck to itself.

C. #5 Anti Dooring Mode

Make sure your Orp is powered up and simultaneously press the power mode button and the WailTail down. This will result in a strobing loud 96dB sound. The idea here is  this may be useful in alerting recently parked drivers of your presence when you are on a tight street lined with parked cars and your  other side is a river of too fast moving traffic. It's too late to switch routes so, hopefully these recent parkers will hear you coming and check their mirrors before opening their doors.

D. #9 Charging your Orp

One peculiar attribute  of Orp is that, sure when he/she is fully charged you'll get a green light, but if you leave your Orp  plugged in, that green light will start depleting the battery and the light will turn red.

E. What's that black cap on the right side of my Orp?

That means your Orp is Remote Ready! We added this feature post campaign  to make Orp better. If you are  putting your Orp on a road bike, your Orp may not be under thumb for quick horn actuation as your hands are up on the hoods. We've designed the REMORP  and it's in the works. This will allow you to put your  dual decibel Horn actuator wherever you want!

It's super intuitive as the first push ignites the friendly sound and a harder push gets the loud sound to blast.

This video starring Calen's hands, a Snot Green Orp and a rough physical prototype of the REMORP explains the concept. The cord is too thick and too short in this prototype.

F. That's it for now

If I think of anything else I'll let you know and for everyone still waiting, hang in there and thanks for your continued patience.
