End of year reflections & giant heap of gratitude!
Hello Beautiful Backers!!
It's been a while since I posted an update. In fact, I haven't posted an update since BEFORE the album was officially released! Which is SILLY because I have lots to share with you!!!
On November 10th, we had a big ol' release show at the Hook and Ladder theater. I think a lot of you were there! It was honestly everything I dreamed of and more - a packed house, a chance to sing with some of my favorite musicians, a chance to give out a lot of hugs and say thank you a whole lot. There was a real positive energy to the room - to me, it felt like love and joy and I didn't take one second of it for granted. The day before, I came down with a cold - normally this would freak me out, so close to a big show - but I just had this unshakeable feeling that it was going to go well, and wow. It sure did! I had a big goofy grin on my face for the next 48 hours!
Then it was radio campaign time! This was one of the things that I directly used the "over the goal" funds for. I sent the album out to 150 stations - about 100 domestic and 50 international. I hired Vicky Emerson to work the radio campaign alongside me. We had 2 months to work (which means call or email and call or email, rinse, repeat) the EuroAmericana reporters, and only 5 weeks to work the Americana Music Association reporting stations. In December my album reached #5 on the EuroAmericana chart, rose to #86 on the AMA chart, and spent 2 weeks as one of the top 5 most added albums for the AMA chart. That was a huge deal for an independent artists. It speaks to the fact that people liked the album, AND that Vicky and I timed our efforts well!! (High fives to you, Vicky!) I recently found a list of goals I had made for the album - one was to be played by 50 stations. Well, I tallied up all the plays I know about yesterday and realized the album has been played on 49 stations!!! WOO HOO! I'm pretty sure there's at least one random play out there I don't know about :) So we're gonna call it a success!
The album was also sent out to reviewers by Krista Vilinskis from Tinderbox Music. People said some very nice things about the album, and I am SO appreciative! Ian O'Regan, writing for Dancing About Architecture, said, "We see the continuing development of a singer-songwriter who has a deep understanding of the structures and cadences of a multitude of genres, from country to folk to pop, married with a subtlety and deftness of touch that makes all that technical understanding sound completely natural and effortless." Ok, Ian! I've never met you, and I think you live in Britain, so I probably won't, BUT! If I do, YOU get a BIG HUG! Two days ago the album was reviewed over at No Depression, and that review gave me the warm fuzzies as well!
'Hearts in Need of Repair' went live at iTunes, Spotify, Bandcamp, Apple Music, Google Play, Amazon, etc on November 17th! I am so grateful for the people who have given the album a listen in any way shape or form. Go ahead and ask Alexa to play Sarah-Morris-Hearts-in-Need-of-Repair and she will! You don't even have to say please ;)
If you want to order any additional copies of the album (because you are my favorite), check out the store page on my website: RIGHT HERE!!! Until midnight, you can get 40% off with the code MERRY. (not the period, just the word)
One more note - yesterday I took a class at the gym, and the instructor ended the class by asking us to take a moment and reflect on one thing that we are truly grateful for from 2017. For me, what came rushing to the surface was gratitude for the support I felt from you all in this process. Releasing the album felt so sweet because it was as if it was guided by 154 sets of hands just softly nudging it down the river. THANK YOU!
Wishing you a beautiful, brave new year! Sprinkled with kindness! Like Confetti :)
So much love, Sarah
Ooh! If you missed the release show, or just want to come out and see the band soon, we've got a great show coming up next Sunday night at the Dakota in MPLS!
